Jason Richardson - 2 part question
« on: December 11, 2008, 11:18:54 AM »
A.  Would you have wanted the sixers to obtain jason richardson (thus confining Thad back to being a great sixth man for a long while possibly)?

B.  What would you have been willing to give up that you think is comparable to what the suns gave up?

Bonus Question

Do you think Dudley would have been worth obtaining due to his shooting range?

A. I don't think he would have relegated Thad to the bench.  If I were acquiring him, it would be to be used at the 2 to replace Iguodala.  I think Richardson can play the 2, and I think he's a much better fit with Thad/Brand than Iguodala is.  Iguodala is the odd man out if I'm making the decision.
2) Diaw and Raja Bell?  What's the equivalent of that here?  Lou Will and Reggie?  Willie and Dalembert?

Yeah, I would have.

I should have made my thinking clearer

Last night in an attempt to 'shake things up' Mo put Willie at the 2 and Andre at the 3 to start and Thad came off the bench (and this seemed to result in Iguodala having a better statistical game then usual)...I was thinking that if Richardson was on the roster Mo would put Richardson at the two and iguodala at the three in the starting line up for a variety of reasons, including the fact that they might not think they can 'sixth man' their 80 million dollar man just yet (whether they should or not being irrelevant, more worried about appearances) and Mo's comments on Thad in general this season...my thinking what that rightly or wrongly the sixers would have taken last nights starting line up and swapped out willie with J Rich.

Undestand with your thinking.

I just disagree.

If I acquire Richardson, it's for the long term goal of him starting next to Thad on the wing and replacing Iguodala, not the short term goal of maximizing Iguodala's potential to squeek out a few more wins and save mo's job.

I think, relatively shortly, Young's going to be a better player than Iguodala.  If I make a move, it's not to try to slightly increase Iguodala's effectiveness but to be a better compliment to Thad long term.

I'd also like to point out that I'm not yet ready to abandon an Iguodala/Young wing, nor am I ready to say that Iguodala can't play at the 2 (he has, substantially, in years past).  It's all about who he's playing with, not where he's playing (with respect to the 2/3, at least).

Especially considering where Young could be in 2 years from now, which I can't say I'm ready to accurately gauge.  I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility of him being a 37%+ 3 pt shooter.

What I am ready to give up on is the Miller/Iguodala/Young triumvirate.  They don't fit.  And I think Miller is the most replacable (partly due to age, partly due to poor fit with Young/Brand, partly because I'm not giving up on a 20 year old with Thad's potential, and partly because Iguodala would be virtually impossible to move due to his BYC status and contract.  But mostly because I think he's the lesser of the 3 and has the least value).

Well - honestly - i think you are a smarter coach than Mo Cheeks would be - i was trying to understand Mo's MO - and the most recent MO i've seen is make Thad sixth man and start Iggy at 3 - so with that thinking i just swapped out WG for JR - maybe after the cavs two fer mo will go back - i don't know - but mo screwed speights last night as well so i have no idea what he's doing :)

I agree in dumping Miller (as I've said before) and I think with each day his trade value decreases just a bit - mainly because of numbers of games played - his expiring contract value is constant - but to a team who thinks he can 'help them win' each day he isn't moved he's worth slightly less because of the number of games left in the regular season.

Though I still think fire mo comes before any trade

Oh, I agree that's not what Mo would do.  That's just what I would do. And yeah, Jrich would be 1000x better than Willie.

I think, if someone goes to the bench, it should have been Sam.  Either starting speights or moving Thad to the 4 and Brand to the 5.  Pretty much every one of Mo's moves have baffled me this year.  This one smells of desperation, so he goes with guys he knows.

I don't know that we have a real equivalent combo to what Phoenix gave up, hard to tell though since I can never figure out what LB/MJ are thinking about players.  Diaw had that one good year or partial year and has been pretty disappointing since.  Bell is a nice professional player. Dudley is a decent throw in going back the other way.

If the Sixers had made this deal it would, not should, have sent Thad to the bench, hell he went there anyway, at least in the short term.  Long term they might have re-tried the Iggy as PG experiment, moved Iggy or Thad in another deal or possibly tried putting Thad back at PF with Brand at C.

To me diaw is the definition of a system player and LB is going to tear him a new one in a week - he's just not a "LB Player" to me...

Why wouldn't LB be more interested in a big man who blocks shots and sort of plays defense and allows Okafor to move to PF?

I basically agree with the consensus.  JRich would have made more sense before the Iguodala signing.  he fits better with Thad, but has an equally bad contract.

I don't ever see Iguodala as a good option at PG other than just bringing the ball up.  he makes good passes, but not always the best decisions with the ball.  He also lacks the 1st step to break down a defense like a PG should.  Iguodala seems best suited to try and use to get size mismatches at SG and take those players to the hole or post them up.

JRich for Sam would be a good value move, but would only work if Iguodala and Lou could take the PG minutes to leave enough PT for Lou/Dala/Thad/JRich.  Otherwise there would be an odd man out.  And I don't see Dala or Lou as being legit PG options on a winner unless they played a gadget offense (like the Triangle or something.)

I can see Iguodola as a PG with Stephen Curry as a SG.

Unless the sixers start 'tanking' on purpose i don't see them picking high enough to get curry (assuming he comes out)
