Would you trade Dalembert for another bad contract and a young prospect if the opportunity presented itself?

Yes, but according to what I just read, Antoine Walkers contract is better than Sam Dalemberts...Walker is basically an expiring deal, team option for 09, Sam's contract runs through 2011.   It's going to be hard to find another team with a contract worse than sams AND an asset worth obtaining that bad contract for.

Teams with contracts expire later than Dalemberts (excluding rookie deals) - to the best of my ability - just listing the 'longer' deals

ATL - Josh Smith
Boston - KG
Charlotte - Matt Carroll, Emeka Okafor, Gerald Wallace
Chicago - Hinrich, Nocioni, Deng
Cleveland - Gibson (Lebron has player options no one expects him to take)
Dallas - Terry, Diop
Denver - Billups team option for 12, Nene
Detroit - Hamilton and Maxiel
GSW - Turiaf, Maggette, Ellis, Biedrins
Houston - maybe scola
Indiana - Granger
Clippers - Kaman, Davis
Lakers - Bynum, Walton
Grizz - every contract but rookies expires by 2011
Heat - no one really - wade will opt out early, james jones has a deal with team options for 2010, 11, 12
Milwaukee - Charlie Bell, Bogut
T'Wolves - Al Jeff
Nets - Devin Harris
Hornets - Posey, West and Paul (with his option)
Knicks - no one
OKC - no one
Orlando - Howard, Lewis, Nelson
Suns - Barbosa, Diaw
Portland - Webster
Sacramento - Martin, Udrih
Spurs - Tim Duncan
Toronto - Calderon (bosh expected to opt out)
UTah - CJ Miles, Deron Williams
WIzards - Jamsion, Arenas, and possibly blatche

So - those are the players with 'worse' contracts than sam in terms of length - and sam doesn't expire in the magic 2010 year.

Is walkers contract longer than what i read?  According to the eskimo site it expires this year due to a team option?

According to storytellers it's a player option.
http://www.storytellerscontracts.info/resources/08-09salaries.htm

I tend to believe the player option.  Team options (on non-rookie contracts) are very rare.  Players who get paid anything above the MLE almost never agree to them.

Ok couldn't remember the story tellers site when i made my list - so my list might be inaccurate>

However, even if Walkers contract is a player option that would extend it through 2011, the contract isn't worse than Sams as much as it's the 'same' as Sams.  So Memphis gets no salary relief from such a trade as much as they get a 'more useful' (to an extent) player than Walker, and does Memphis even care about that right now?

Reviewing story tellers i missed a couple names it seems

Gomes at Minnesota
Pietrus at Orlando
Garcia at Sacramento

I think that's most if not all of the contracts (non rookie) that could last longer than Sams...I may have missed a couple

It works with Just dalembert for Walker and Critt.... no Smith needed.

We would be too thin up front to give up Smith and Sam.  No way Evans is your only back-up big next year.

I don't see how getting the Shimmy is an upgrade.  We don't really need the tax relief of his shorter contract (and still would end up to close to the cap to turn it into a FA.)

Critt might be the answer at PG, but I don't know what you could base that on.  I would move Sam for an established PG like Calderon (or even a risky one like TJ Ford) but there really are not great option sout there.

Sure, but if it's not a 'salary dump' (and if they expire the same year, it's not, and in fact sam has a bigger cap number than walker) why do the grizz do it unless they are trading for sam as a player...and marc gasol is better at center than sam :)

I still see just decreasing Sam's minutes and eliminating Evan's minutes in favor of Speight as the answer.  This year Speights can get 20-25 MPG, and then 30 mpg going fprward.  Even with Sam getting 25 mpg the PT is available for Speights, and will be even more once they start cutting back some on Brands minutes to save his legs as he gets older.

Because Sam's a better player than Walker.

If they're not doing it for that reason, I don't think Jason Smith is enough to sway them.

Sam has some value in the league, just not equal to his contract number.  You could take back a bad contract equal in length to Sam's contract and get a player with some potential/skills for Sammy.  From the Griz the bad contract might be someone more like Jaric, rather than Walker.

BTW, I believe Walker's contract next year is a team option with a buyout.  The buyout is what he'll make next year and it is probably more than the minimum.
