OT: CA Residents Sales Tax
« on: September 26, 2008, 03:24:21 PM »
Just went to Staples to pick something up last minute and noticed that the sales tax is 8.25% now....

Am I oblivious?  I don't remember noticing it being switched from 7.75...

Been that way for loooooooooooooooooooooooooong time.  You are probably used to Orange County Sales tax which I believe is still 7.75, you buy something in LA and you will be paying 8.25 so it's not a state thing..

That's what it is.  I thought it was state wide.

How would you know?  Doesn't everyone in Santa Barbara just send their serf to the store (I wouldn't expect a serf to own a PC let alone have internet access, so you must not be one of those)?

It's not any more snobby or gated then parts of LA and Santa Barbara.

Most of the gated portions of Santa Barbara are actually in Montecito which is like it's own private little community with rules and laws unto itself.

Sales tax???  What the heck is that?

wk, ziggy is totally missing out and he doesn't even know it!  Without sales tax how would you know how much to tip your waiter/waitress?   :D Us lucky Californians just double the tax for the appropriate tip.   A 7.75 to 8.25 tax on nearly EVERYTHING we purchase is a small price to pay for this convienience. :-\

Well, in Texas it is something we pay instead of income tax.  Californians aren't smart enough to pick one or the other.   ;)

You just made me feel way better about paying it to be honest.  Since our country loves to play with words like BAIL OUT or RESCUE I think I'll do the same.  The income tax will now be referred to as the Keep The Texans Out Tariff.  If Reality is the definition of a RealSpurs then maybe it's our duty to pay a little extra to keep more from ruining areas like San Diego.
