A Connecticut youth baseball team with a phenomenal 9-year-old pitcher has been disqualified because its team is too good.

The team, Will Power Fitness, has an 8-0 record thanks in large part to pitcher Jericho Scott, the New Haven Register reports. His pitching is so fast and accurate, the Liga Juvenil De Baseball De New Haven asked the team's coach, Wilfred Vidro, to replace him so he wouldn't frighten other players.

?The spirit of the league was community, family, well-being, nurturing," Peter Noble, the league's attorney, told the Register. "It?s an extended family and it?s been disrupted.?

On Saturday, Jericho and his team showed up to the ballfield despite the fact the league canceled the game because they feared an "unhealthy environment" due to parental bickering, Noble told the paper. Jericho's parents, Nicole and Leroy, planned to meet with an attorney on Monday.

The Scotts said the league ? which is not affiliated with the Little League ? wanted Jericho to play for a stronger team. The parents and the coach claim the reason is because that team is sponsored by a local barbershop where the league's president currently cuts hair, the paper reported.

?If you keep these kids on the field you keep them off the streets,? Leroy Scott told the paper. ?I?d rather have him [Jericho] in the midst of this controversy on the field than dealing drugs on a street corner.?

Also in connecticut, if your high school football team wins by 50 points or more, your coach will be suspended

It began with the Jordan rules.  Unfortunately it's the parents fault, not the players.

I don't think you will see civility return to sports until minorities are eliminated from all organized sports.  Oh wait...that's the ecomony...err...the job market?  I forget, what are we supposed to blame the minorities for this election?  Can I get some help from a republican brother?

What kind of coach teaches players to just give up with out even trying to hit off the guy?! 

And aren't all leagues "development" leagues all the way up through high school?!  Crappy excuse from the front office.

If this kid was throwing too hard and hitting kids then perhaps I could see a reason for this but according to the story.... that hasn't happened. If he's better than everyone else, so be it. Perhaps the kids that suck will get better by playing against better competition.

Now now, this is 'modern day' america, everyones a winner, competition is bad, what has competition ever given us.

If this kid was throwing too hard and hitting kids then perhaps I could see a reason for this but according to the story.... that hasn't happened. If he's better than everyone else, so be it. Perhaps the kids that suck will get better by playing against better competition.

That's my whole point.  That and of course how do you know no one will ever hit off him if they do not even try?  Lame coaching IMO.

I'm not on the side of the whiners but i do like one Little League viewers suggestion that perhaps the kids play a different position each innning or each game.  Let them get the feel of the game from all angles vs being all about winning.  But of course that can't happen, right?  Que Real Men of Genius music for "The one who live viccarrrr i ously thru his chil 'drens sports teammms".

Well it looks like we can officially upgrade this story about Jericho Scott, the 9-year-old who was "too good to pitch", from momentary 'news of the weird' curiosity to full-blown media circus. Not surprisingly, it's the parents acting younger than their children who are allowing the controversy to grow.

Wishing to tell their side of the story, league officials from the Connecticut youth baseball league held a press conference Tuesday night to explain why Scott had been banned from pitching against their children. (All of whom, by the way, were lined up behind the podium like the little props they are.)

It was bad news for the kids, because it forced them to stand in a spotlight they're probably already tired of standing in.

It was good news for those of you who love l'il league drama because league officials placed Jericho's mother Nicole in the proverbial dunk tank and immediately started lobbing baseballs. The topic of discussion was the "incident" on Aug. 20, when Jericho took the mound in a game he had been warned not to pitch, prompting the other team to pull its players from the field.

From the New Haven Independent:

    What happened, according to the league, was that the Will Power Fitness coach Wilfred Vidro defied orders and started Jericho on the mound. League officials called the game, declaring that Will Power Fitness had defaulted. Will Power Fitness players and parents reportedly started chanting "losers." The other team's members were escorted to Carlito's Barber Shop, "to ensure their safety."

    "There was an incredible amount of taunting and threats," said Noble (the league's attorney).

    Jericho's mom, Nicole Scott, reportedly threatened the league with lawsuits and league officials with bodily harm. According to the league, Scott said, "This will be the last year. Once the lawyer is done they're gonna eat **** and there ain't gonna be a league next year."

Scott's attorney, John Williams, denied those reports, but they're surely going to provide enough fresh blood for the Dr. Phils and Ellens of the world (not to mention the 'Duks of the Internets) to keep sniffing around the story. The article says that Jericho was in New York on Tuesday night for the Yankees game and that he was scheduled to appear on CBS' morning show today.

Yeah, so at least his parents are keeping him shielded and not looking for a quick path to fame.

Actually, this whole thing serves as a reminder that when it comes to youth sports, it's usually the adults who are acting like children and the children who are acting like adults. No matter who said or did what, these people should be ashamed of themselves for letting this continue

My 12 year old nephew ran into a similar problem this year.  His coach wouldn't let him pitch, because get this, he throws to hard, and the catcher doesn't like catching for him.

Those catcher gloves are very well padded.  It does not really hurt to catch baseballs with em unless you are catching them wrong......
