I understand the sponsoring and the brand placement....but for a Dream Team photo?  Seriously?  Would anyone who buys basketball shoes because their favorite player like Dwight Howard wears them be swayed because he has Nike shorts on?!  I don't get it.

Cause Nike sponsors the dream team and to people in marketing crap like this matters, much like a big deal was made when KG seemed to purposely skew his branding slogan after the celts won the title, twice, on live tv.

To people in marketing stuff like this matters, i'm not sure why, but then again, i usually don't watch commercials

Yea I know it matters to the marketing guys but to the people they actually market to?  I mean if im a huge Dwight Howard fan and I see him in Nike shorts I don't all the sudden burn up my Adidas gear.  Vice versa?  Same thing.

The picture looks really stupid with the way they tried to block it out.  They should have just photoshopped it seriously.

Marketing past a certain age doesn't tend to work, but teenagers and such, who are much bigger into the 'inappropriate' hero worship of athletes or celebrities, these things do have influence, i think it's just a matter of scale.

Hell when I was in 8th grade, i had to have the first issue red black air jordans, and those things were ugly as sin.

They are lined up that way because Dwight is the only Center on the squad!

By the way guys, when are the Illuminati taking over the world?

I really hope you don't work in marketing or public relations.

Marketing past a certain age doesn't tend to work,

Coming from someone who's probably typing on an advertised computer, with service from an advertised broadband provider, wearing advertised shoes, shirts, driving his advertised car to work, and shaving with advertised shaving cream.  Yet you're insistent advertising doesn't work?

Advertising and product placement isn't about having someone go "ooh, Dwight's wearing Nike's.  I'm gonna go buy a pair", but about increasing brand awareness.  Next time you guy buy a pair of shoes, you may not consciously remember why you recognize and have interest in that brand, but advertising has an effect on much more than young kids.

^^ have posted this before, so far only Skandery and myself have viewed this, or at least posted to having viewed it:
"The Corporation".

Very worthwhile viewing.
Most def "branding" is part of the marketing picture.  The NBA most def does branding also and i daresay everyone on or visiting this board has been affected by it.

Myself I had never boughten any pro sports apparel, ever.  I caved in when the Martyball Chargers of 2006-7 were 14-2 and looking at hosting both playoff games.  Bought me an LT authentic NFL jersey from an oversupplyer for $100.  Retail value $300.
I figured the Chargers would overcome ShottenPop and at least make the AFC Championship, if not the bowl.

yes jem.

(if you couldn't figure it out, "you" and "your" isn't an attack, but used as an example).

(I also think that you using an advertised computer isn't all that big of a stretch.  Or, at the very least, advertised parts).
