Playoff picks. Series
« on: April 17, 2008, 04:46:45 AM »
These are just for fun, no need for any of us to stress over picking accurately.  I don't want any of us to overanalyse what should be one of the most interesting playoffs in years.  I mean if one of us gets it right, well great.
We can do individual games later, but for now lets pick the whole brackett thru the Finals and see how close we can get.

8 Atlanta at 1 Boston
7 Philadelphia at 2 Detroit
6 Toronto at 3 Orlando
5 Washington at 4 Cleveland

8 Denver at 1 LA Lakers
7 Dallas at 2 New Orleans
6 Phoenix at 3 San Antonio
4 Utah at 5 Houston

I'm not sure about the others, will pick later.
I'm not discounting Houston, with Utahs inability on the road.
Dallas i also think has woken up, altho by that i do not mean by that final mail in game by New OrL.
Philly has consistency issues.

Here are mine.  While the west was pretty close this entire year and has a lot of talent I only see one 'upset'.  Not really an upset if you look at the two teams but based on seeding it would be.

It will be the help he gets from the extra 3 players with whistles.   ;)

If by Shaq-Fu you mean Amare Stoudamire then I agree.  If you mean Shaq-Fu as in Shaq O'Neal I'll have to remind you that he couldn't get it done 4 years ago against the Spurs.  I really don't see him doing it now.

HE won't do it. But HE will tell everyone constantly it can be done ... and make them believe.
Of course, it needs some perfect alignment of stars to happen, but my gut feeling is they (the stars) are already on the move ...

LOL you can't give Finley much props for dropping 20 points in games but you want us to pat you on the back for hyping up a player who scores 8 points?

PHX must be shaking in their boots that those monster 8 point games from Brent Barry is going to send them back to the Arizona heat all summer  ::)

A third-rate mind is only happy when it is thinking with the majority. A second-rate mind is only happy when it is thinking with the minority. A first-rate mind is only happy when it is thinking.

A quotation is a handy thing to have about, saving one the trouble of thinking for oneself.

1st round
8 Atlanta at 1 Boston
7 Philadelphia at 2 Detroit
6 Toronto at 3 Orlando
5 Washington at 4 Cleveland

8 Denver at 1 LA Lakers
7 Dallas at 2 New Orleans
6 Phoenix at 3 San Antonio
4 Utah at 5 Houston

2nd Round
Eastern
Boston v Cleveland
Detroit v Orlando
Western
Utah v LA Lakers
San An v Dallas

Conference Finals

Boston v Detroit
San An v LA Lakers

FINALS

LA Lakers v Boston Celtics

I just hope the Lakers are courteous enough to send honorary championship rings to Michael Heisley and Chris Wallace.  In all seriousness with the team experience, team depth (guys like Walton, Farmar, Turiaf), Kobe finally growing up and becoming a true MVP, and all that offensive firepower added by Gasol; I don't see a team in the West that is complete enough to knock them off.  As for Boston, that'll be the Lakers toughest test, but in the end it'll come down to the inexperience of Boston's role players save Posey (Perkins, Rondo, Powe, T. Allen, etc.) AND the inexperience of the star players on the Finals stage.

I am least confident in my Suns, Mavs and Cavs picks.  I would much rather have the Lakers face the Spurs, if the Lakers even make it that far, but I can not deny the thrill of a potential Kobe vs Shaq with the Lakers prevailing after being beat by the Suns two years in a row.
