Wow, the next Harold Miner/Fatione Walker hybrid.  He might have some success against the Suns who play defense as good as those two partitians sitting on the floor.

The Spurs will most likely be looking up at the Mavs next year since the Argentine Machine Ruben Wolkowysk is comming to Dallas.  I wish the Lakers could find a diamond in the rough like the Mavs/Don Nelson seem to do.

Cool I guess but I've learned to wait until guys play for a while to really judge them (at least in a serious manner)

What is the coaching staff in SA saying about him, both good and bad?  That is what I'd be curious to hear/see.

WOW one of the Lakers international scouts is Vlade I believe....yet Mavs/SA have really been able to go after foreign players well.  Much better then any of the other teams.  I wish we could find diamonds in the rough also.

Yes he does look like James Worthy.  Altho he jumps higher and has longer arms.   And plays D like Worthy.

westkoast the real Spurs fans have been dying to see this guy as instead PopaRepress has benched him in favor of Beno Undie and Michael Brickley ad nauseum.
White got in his 1st game the other night.  Had a one handed dunk (surprise) off an alley oop lob in traffic from Fabs.

Actually real Spurs fans believe in the coaching staff that has won 3 titles and has the third longest streak of 50 win seasons in NBA history.  Here are some quotes from an article in today's paper...

Quote
Michael Finley saw enough highlights of this season's dunk contest to know this much: Had Spurs rookie James White been in the event, he would have won.
"Seriously," Finley said. "The dunk contest has come to a point where we've seen everything. But he has dunks that people haven't seen."

Finley said he has seen White take off from the free-throw line and put the ball between his legs before flushing it through the rim. He also claims White can throw down a two-handed dunk from the foul line.

"Nobody's seen that," Finley said.

and...
Quote
"You have to approach it as a job," White said. "It's my job to stay professional, go out there and come to work every day like nothing has changed. You never know when you'll get your opportunity to play.

"Basketball is fun; you can't beat that as a job."

So far, that attitude has served White well. Spurs officials, while acknowledging they might have to wait until summer league to better evaluate White, are pleased with how he's fit in the locker room.

White also handled his two assignments to the Development League fairly well, averaging 16.3 points on 47.7 percent shooting in 15 games for the Austin Toros. With minutes few and far between on a veteran-heavy Spurs roster, he has spent some of his time working with shooting coach Chip Engelland.

and...
Quote
While White needs to continue working on his fundamentals, no one has ever questioned he has the athleticism to succeed in the NBA. His leaping ability is extraordinary, and some among the Spurs rank him alongside David Robinson as one of the franchise's greatest athletes. Before he had even finished his college career at Cincinnati, "Flight" White's impressive dunks had made him a YouTube star.

Some NBA scouts thought White had the potential to be a first-round selection last summer. He lasted until the opening pick of the second round when Portland chose him and immediately traded him to Indiana. The Pacers thought enough of White to give him a guaranteed two-year contract, unusual for second-round picks.

and...
Quote
"When I came here, it was a whole different situation from Indiana, the tradition of winning, the professionalism of the whole team. ... I've learned something new from the older guys every day."

Finley has helped mentor White, providing a few words of advice or encouragement when appropriate.

"He's young, so he really won't appreciate this time with this team until maybe five or six years into the league," Finley said. "Hopefully, he can stay grounded and stay humble, and he'll be OK."

I hope Vlade can help the Lakers out, IMO Nellie has been the head an shoulders above the rest as far as international scouting.  Vlade IMO was a real find, he wasn't on anybodies radar until an exibition game vs the Celtics, seems he wanted to show up the Americans and did a decent job.  Guys like Sabbonis, Petrovic, Kucok and Marceloneous (I know my spelling is way off) were IMO no-brainers since they were all top 5-10 players in the Euros.  IMO scouting non-Americans is as difficult as scouting high schoolers, you're not really sure what you're gonna get unless you have a Yao fall in your lap but even Yao had a ton of question marks especially since he took time to adjust and get over exhaustion.

What a loser Michael Finley is.  Helping young teammates develop into better players with words of advice does not show up on stat sheets.  How does he expect to get props for that?

Thanks for the quotes Lurker!  I always like to hear from what people around him have to say rather then observers.   Whether it is Reality or others.

I thought Vinsanity dunked with two hands from the FT line.  This guy does have a Vinsanity type of physique and hops.  IMO this guy needs to develop a respectable outside shot or he won't amount to anything other than a Darius Miles or Harold Miner.  If his fundamentals are lacking that tells me he can't dribble much or have footwork.  Tons of stuff for this guy to be a legit NBA player but they are all things he can fix if he's truely dedicated and not a big dumb blockhead like Devean George.  Guys like Devean and Miles are the example of guys who have tons of talent but no head or heart to improve their game beyond their physical gifts.

Almost as much as I enjoy hearing real Mavs fans say how Findawgs decline has not been merely since Cuban sent him from the Mavs but since 2002.  All the same complaints, ill advised shots, no D, never drives the ball to the rack as a 90% FT shooter, the decline continues.  As to his supposed *mentoring* that you two swallow, he told Butler to run some laps after practice one day because Butler had loafed.  The whole team laughed and it was thought of mostly as a good joke.  A few weeks later a Spur seriously twisted an ankle in a game and had to be helped off.  Duncan had to yell 3 Xs at Butler as he sat on his ass on the bench and made no attempt to help until Duncan virtually ordered him to.  Real influence by Findawg.  If he really wanted to mentor Butler why wasn't he in Butlers face the day after he signed saying "you need to get in shape and you and i are gonna pump iron and work out all summer long ala Karl Malone because I want a Championship."  Instead Butler shows up to camp 30 pounds over.

You two sheep swallow whatever is printed about Finley.  Which btw lurker, why not just post the link?  Is anything of what you posted supposed to change my view of White or Pop?  Believe me there are a ton of real Spurs who have been waiting and hollering to see White get some playing time -in favor of Fins.

And why should I believe you.

Funny thing is that I haven't heard that from any Spurs fans that live in San Antonio and watch them regularly.  I guess it is just Southern California Spurs fans that you are talking to....

I am sorry Reality but I don't believe you heard these from 'real mavs fans' just as much as Lurker doesn't believe you heard it from various 'real spurs fans'

Finley was by far the best defender on the Mavs when he was there.  There was not a single player that was a more consistant and better defender on that squad.  Ill advised shots?  Are you serious?  Buddy that entire team took ill advised shots.  That was their MO.  Also part of the reason why then never got it done in the playoffs.  No shot was a bad shot to ANY Mav.  That included Dirk, Nash, and the rest of the cast.  If Cuban could suit up he would have taken ill advised shots.    So I don't know what real mavs fans told you some of that bs.  I am pretty sure you consider yourself a real mavs fan and you told yourself in the mirror one day.

Finley said he has given him advice about being in the NBA.  To me that type of knowledge is worth more then gold.  There is so much to being a pro ball player that any tips from players who have lived the life is going to benefit you.  So because he made him run laps after practice cuz he wasn't trying hard that means he is not mentoring him?  That doesn't make sense.  Punishing him for not trying sounds like tough love.  Can you please explain to the rest of us how you were able to twist a player being a loaf means Finley is doing a horrible job giving him advice?!  You should be a writer for STAR magazine.
