I've caught a few finishes.  Certainly has had some great endings.
Ohio State nearly being ousted.

I have been watching the NCAA Tournament pretty closely for the first time in almost 20 years (my son is in college now) - it's amazing how children immediately impact one's life, BTW.  I went to every night of the Pac-10 Tournament (at Staples) except the Final (thanks, Louie!), so I am familiar with three of the Sweet Sixteen teams.  The Pacific-10 has emerged as one of the powerhouse conferences of the nation, and deservedly so.  If Washington State hadn't lost in double overtime to Vanderbilt, 4 of the 6 Pac-10 teams that qualified for the Tournament would have made it to the round of sixteen.

Some observations from my attending the Pac-10 tournament:

Aaron Afflalo - definitely his final year at UCLA, regardless of the outcome of this season.  This guy has the NBA body - it remains to be seen if he has the NBA skills, however.  He really choked to the max in the Pac-10 tounament, causing UCLA to get bounced in the first round.

Gabe Pruitt - I would be very surprised if this guy did not make it to the NBA.  A real floor general, and a steady offensive production and great defensive skills.  It's no surprise that USC has advanced as far as they have - at least to those who watched their performance at the tourney.

Oregon - the sleeper team.

San Antonio is hosting the football...er South...regional.  Traditional (football)powerhouses like Tennessee, Texas A&M and Ohio State are playing here this weekend.  Toss in a Memphis team and there should be some good ball.

I went to the regionals that were here a few years back (2000? 2001?) and it is a very different environment for watching basketball.  There are still some tickets available and I would love to see Oden in person but alas other plans have been made for this weekend.

At this point my tourney pool hopes rely on a championship by the Bruins and a Final Four appearance by the Aggies.

Lurker I assume that you have gone to some other regional games in SA over the years?  I feel fortunate to live in a city that hosts tourney games.  I've seen some thrilling games in MPLS over the years.

Rolando I'm assuming you've heard this one before but it was new to me.  A friend of mine who just moved back from LA referred to USC as the "University of Spoiled Children".   ;D

Hey jn!

Even though my son is a student there now, I still bear some animus towards USC as a UCLA alum myself.  So, 'University of Spoiled Children' is still an accurate description of the school, IMO.  However, my all-time favorite anti-USC saying from my UCLA student days is, "The only good Trojan is a used Trojan."  My son's friends from SC had never heard that one - I know I'm old, now.  They died laughing, though!

A couple...actually the best way to get tickets is to hang out after the first round of games and try to pick them up cheap from the losing team fans.  Most of them buy a 2 game package and have little interest in the "championship" game if their team is eliminated.

with 32 left or certainly 16 on down, does this years tourney set any records for 1-2 point games and OT games?

Talk about close finishes.

Hey Reality!

As I was watching UCLA bounce Kansas out of the Elite Elight on the way to its second consecutive Final Four, I must admit that I did not expect Aaron Afflalo to dominate the way he did.  If he can produce this way consistently, he's bound for SF stardom in the NBA.  I still can't believe UCLA won so convincingly, with Kansas getting 20-something steals and all - but they played Jordan-era Chicago Bulls-type clamp-down defense (the best team D of all time, bar none) the whole game...wow.

A lot of big come-from-behinds in the Sweet Sixteen and Elite Eight rounds - I'm not sure I've ever seen this happen in the Tournament before.

Man, did Georgetown kick boot on the Tar Heels in OT on Sunday - what a way to lose, NO POINTS in the OT. Dang....HAHAHAHAHA

I don't know about Afflalo in the NBA, he doesn't seem to be quick enough or big enough to be a SF in the NBA.  He could make a career in the NBA but not as a star, then again I've only seen him in two games, I'll have to watch him a bit more.

AHHHH STUPID UNC!@#$(_

So at work we have this pool and one of the entries is from Sarah The Chicken....this newspaper always let's the chicken pick all the games in the tourny.  They put bird seed on a piece of paper split in two, one side for each team, and then let then whatever the chicken pecks at first is the pick it choses.  Right now the chicken is beating me by one point and it has Florida to win it all.  I am so far from the top of the pack I have now created a rivalry with a chicken from another state to keep it interesting.

UCLA FOR LIFE!

Affalo will face guys like that kid from Florida every night in the NBA, I don't think this kid will be much of a player in the NBA.  Reminds me of Kapano or a maybe even Rick Fox, he'd be lucky to have a career as good as Fox.
