Trivia Q.
« on: November 04, 2006, 12:41:10 AM »
Who is the person who coached the Philly 76ers to a world title, one of two times he coached a world champ.
He has done what only 2 other NBA coaches have done.

dabods or rt if you know immediately, print it in yellow so the rest can ponder.
I predict no one, that includes Joe V, WOW, and Jomal will get this one right without internet cheating.

Bing bing!
NBA Champ coach in St. Louis 1958 and Philadelphia 1967.

ABA Champ coach 1969 Oakland Oaks. (1st coach to win in both leagues, Bill Sharmon only other coach to do so.)

Other highlights:
Took over coaching duties mid-season with the St. Louis Hawks (1957) and guided them to the NBA Finals, where they lost to Boston in seven games

Coached San Francisco Warriors to Western Conference Championship (1964)

Voted 1964 NBA Coach of the Year and 1969 ABA Coach of the Year

His 1967 Philadelphia 76ers team set a record for regular season wins (68) and was later voted the best team in the NBA's first 35 years (1980)

Under Hannum's guidance, Wilt Chamberlain altered his game from offense-oriented to defense- and team-oriented

Actually, Reality, he's done something *NO* other (non-Celtic) coach has done:  win a championship in the Bill Russell era.

Russell lost in only two seasons;  Hannum won the title in both of them.

P.S. I must admit just figured out it couldn't have been Cunningham and happened to know about Hannum from various pieces about Wilt.  I honestly didn't know he had coached two champions, much less that St Louis was the second.

My guess was Cunningham but I got nervous about posting it cause I might be getting my basketball names mixed up with my pro-poker player names or even a slight case of Happy Days fever.
