I think everyone on the board agrees that 40+ year old atheletes are simply better then the young uns.

 :hail: Kenny Rogers.

Leland, i did not need the drama of Todd Jones in the 9th.  What is the status of that rookie Z Man who throws 100MPH+?

No doubt the week off took the edge off the Tigers.  The Tigers pitching has been OK, and the starters have done their job; going 5-7 innings and keep your team in the game.  But the offense has been horrible, and crucial errors sucked the life out of the momentum.  The Tigers have given up 5 unearned runs so far, and you can't win anything doing that.
They have also not hit worth a crap.  Casey, Guillen, and Inge have hit well, but Ordonez, Polanco, Granderson, and Pudge are hitting less than .100 (6-62).  If they don't hit the Tigers have no chance.  If they were hitting just .250 that would be 10 more base hits, and the Tigers would be up 3-1 and not down 3-1.

Same time the Cards have stepped it up too.  Rolen has finally started to hit, and Edmonds is also hitting better.  St. Louis had no chance unless those guys contributed.  It ain't over till it's over, but it don't look good.

A quotation is a handy thing to have about, saving one the trouble of thinking for oneself.

That's just going by MLBs ultra lame scorekeeping system.
They really have like 10 unearnds.
Det reliever Rodney did a great job of getting out of 1st and 3rd one out by not allowing a run to end the 6th.
So for the 7th, Ecxstein lofts a can of corn to center field and the CF slips for a *double*.  Rodney follows that with a blown throw to 1st.

ZMan walks two men in a row prior to Pujols.   Who procedes to hit a perfectly tailor made one hopper back to the ZMan.  Who chucks it into outer space.  So last night he comes in and procedes to walk the 1st man he faces:wacko: , en route to giving up the winning 5-4 run.

The Cards are doing what a lot of teams have done in MLB history.  Just don't beat yourself, watch the other team self destruct.  That may seem like I am unpropping the Cards, and to an extent i am.  But they have also had the timely hits.

What are the stats are 3-1 teams closing?
