jn we have flat scored out here in San Diego for theaters.
As WOW can testify, DLP (Digital Light Projection, definite enhancer of movies like X3) theaters are few and far between, and the L.A. area one gouges $12 per movie.  Only about 45 worldwide (i havent checked lately www.dlp.com)  However that site is not completely up to date.
Anywho we have about 8 of them here in S.D., 6 belong to one company UltraStar Theaters.   http://www.ultrastarmovies.com/index.htm

Their 1st movie of every day, including new releases is $5.

Saw it on opening night with my kids.

Movie was pretty good, not enough action.  I like the fact that the humans put up a pretty good fight in the big battle scene.  I had heard on Howard Stern the day of the opening to stay till the end of the credits.  So many people left when the credits started rolling, and on Sunday when we talked about the film at a bar-b-que my kids and I were the only ones out of 6 families that saw the ending scene.  We were kidding around that everyone might as well have stayed home if they didn't see the last scene.

Devinchi Code was not all that great.  Someone asked me which one I would recommend if they could only see one and I told them to see X-Men.

AUHH..thiswasthemoststupendiferouslyexcitingenthralling
ridiculouslygratifyinglyaweinspiringmotherofallthatis
greatestmovieinthewholehistoryofcinema....<SIGH>

Sorry guys, I had to, how did jn put it, wallow in my geek-dom before giving the calm, rational, measured response to the film.

First, having just heard that the film has broken memorial day sales by reaching 9 figures (still have to verify), I'd like to say, "Shove it in your piehole, Bryan Singer, we'll see how well Superman: Man in Tights fares.

I thought the movie was a great experience, a really good film.  I came out of the first X-Men movie with massive internal conflict.  It was my beloved the X-Men, I'd been waiting for that movie my entire life, but then so many things about it were so...eh, bland for lack of a better term.  X2 was a triumph and an affirmation that they could translate to cinema in a spectacular fashion.  X-Men: The Last Stand validates that affirmation.  Now to be completely honest, it isn't better than X2.  After all the Nightcrawler White House and Magneto Jail Break scenes are works of art.  Though X3 makes up for it in wall-to-wall action.  Pretty much every scene has our favorite mutants showing off their abilities.

It was good to see many of my fears coming into the film were not realized:

I was worried that Brett Ratner was a douche

...well, Ratner is definitely a douche, but at least he knows how to make a film.

I was worried about making Beast with prosthetics and makeup instead of CGI.

...it worked out awesome, much props to Kelsey Grammar (he did Beast to a tee).

I was worried about how Phoenix translated to the big screen, can they really show her kicking ENOUGH ass.

...in a word, YES!

Was there going to be continuity or was Ratner going to make it his OWN thing much like every director feels the NEED to do.

...for the most he laid off and continued many of the trends and conventions of the previous two films.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And now for some things that irked me a bit:

1.  I thought they introduced WAAAYYY too many new characters.  Generally I'm of "the more, the merrier" type guy, but when you go overboard its hard to devote the kind of character development necessary.  (I was especially disappointed with Angel, Cyclops, and Colossus).

2.  The Marvel Universe is bursting at the seams with mutants and characters, there is absolutely NO need to make up your own characters for movie purposes.  I still don't understand why studio's do this!  Who the heck is Kid Omega?  Who the heck is Shock?

3.  Should you use one of the plethora of characters in the universe, try to remember what their mutant powers are.  Callisto doesn't have superspeed and the mutant who can sense other mutants is Caliban!

4.  The mutant culture seemed to be very reminiscent of the Morlocks, although the word Morlocks was never mentioned.  The problem was they went halfway:  The Morlocks weren't fully captured and neither was the larger mutant culture.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

...what can I say, I'm a fanboy and little stuff like that will irks me.  Still its a GREAT movie and encourage all to see it, I already have TWICE, and plan to again pretty soon. B)

I saw it opening day also...For those who do like to see movies on opening day make sure you use fandango.  It was so sweet to buy my tickets at work, walk passed the HUGE line to the fandango kiosk, slide my credit card in, then have the tickets spit out.  BAM!  Walked right by the rest of the line and got a good spot.

The movie was great.  Pretty much my only problem with the movie was ones Skand pointed out...Why introduce new made up characters, why introduce Angel in such a corny/pointless fashion, and please get the characters powers right.  Other than that I really enjoyed it.  Nice blend between storyline and action.

For those who saw it, tell me the special effects for Pheonix were not crazy.  I thought they did a heck of a job with that.  Like Skand I was very weary about how that was going to work out in this movie.

Wait, remind me again why you would want Famke Jannsen distorted by special effects?

Once it was proven Jean was Bill Russle-Wilt-Larry Bird-Manu Gnob combined, what is the point of the battles?

It seemed the only real battle would be which side Jean would pick.

Altho I do get that Jean was confused by her double personality and in the end the Good Jean "let" Wolverine kill the Bad Jean.

So are both of them dead for X4?
I also thought Kelsey Grammers blue werewolf look was very well done.  The chick with the painted skin looked better on X3 Rebeca Romain.

You're right, all that Bill Russle-Wilt-Larry Bird power and she ends up crying like a little DraManu beyatch.

I thought Angel sucked and they totally wasted the Sentinel element.  And you're telling me that they couldn't find another couple of "cure" bullets to give to the Pheonix?  There always a bunch of weak "outs" in every movie.

I'm confused was she Manu-ish because she is an actress?

What would be entertaining is Manu vs you in a one on one best of 7 hoop.

What would be even funnier is you playing Manu 1 on 1 and you hugging his backside so closely that you get whistled for a flamboyant foul
