Its Time for everyone's Dirk Nowitzki Update
« on: January 04, 2006, 02:21:42 PM »
Well....during the time that our favorite mercurial Laker 2 guard has decided to taking elbows to people's faces on a nightly basis and subsequently getting himself tossed for two games leaving his team to suffer back to back losses to that powerhouse of a team Utah.

Nowitzki has averaged 25.4 ppg, 8.4 rpg, 4.0 apg, 1 3PM at 42%, and 8.4 trips to the line at a perfecto 100% over the last five games.  Under the strong play of their leader, Dallas has won 5 out of the last 6 games and 8 out of the last 10 games.  He just recently broke Steve Nash's franchise record for most consecutive free throws (49) made.

Anyone who doesn't think Kobe did not have a better last week then Dirk is:  "missing at least one lobe of their brain, clearly in the last stages og dimentia, or maybe just an idiot."

You're in the last stages og dimentia.

Kandy,

I guess you have to wait for Kobe to be suspended before you even THINK about comparing irk No-D-ski to him!

I'll get you one.  Because besides comparing Kobme to Dirk, he will be facing a couple more truly top 5-10ers coming up in A.I. Friday and Lebron shortly.

Of course Kobme has already schooled KG twice this year.  And A Stoudamire.

WOW-y,

In the interest of the on-going saga of whether Dirk is a Top 5 NBA player, I'll gladly continue providing updates regardless of whether Kobe's is getting himself suspended or not.

Has the league become so watered down that a top 5 player now only has to play on one end of the floor?

As opposed to the 2 ends Charles Barkley used to play?

Was charles ever a top 5?

Top 5 SF/PF, but not over all IMO.

I was wondering the same thing

Did Barkley steal Db's password?  Also I'd like to add that Barkley was a MUCH better rebounder than Dirk is.

If Barkley was never top 5, who were the top 5 in 1993?

Jordan and Olajuwon are givens, but who else?  Shaq?  His team wasn't even a playoff team in that year - his rookie year.  Magic and Bird were gone.  David Robinson and Patrick Ewing enjoyed less success than Barkley.  Isiah Thomas was on the down-swing.

Barkley was DEFINITELY a top 5 player.

I know some of you have heard of Hollinger's PER ratings.  This is a rating that incorporates various forms of on-court production.  A good comparison is your PER vs your opponent's PER.  Just a few examples from 82games.com:

Player      PER    oPER
Garnett    28.7   15.7
Duncan    28.3   15.0
Brand      29.1   13.6  (speaks loudly of MVP consideration)
BigBen     20.2   16.4
JO'Neal    20.2   14.2
Dirk         29.1   16.0

I would say that Dirk is playing defense at the level of KG & TD & Big Ben based on the stats.  Maybe some of you should actually watch a few Mavs games before falling back on stereotypes.
It riles them to believe that you perceive the web they weave.  Keep on thinking free.

Barkley was DEFINITELY a top 5 player.

Agreed.

And yes, Barkley was a helluva rebounder, which made him more valuable than Dirk.  But Barkley didn't play a lick of defense, which was the argument.
