Absolute drain salaries

[Reality]

"Released" means releasing ex team is continuing to pay the amount, or a case by case basis?  Does it mean some teams are paying releasees, some are not?

I think we might agree across the board that these players are indeed a total drain to their ex teams.
It's a partial list, if anyone has an up to date new one, great.
BTW, did Vin Baker win his case?  Is he pulling a check from the Celts for 5 MILLION a year?
Does "retired" automatically mean a buyout was done or horror of horrors the player decided he would not continue to pull cashe from a team for doing nothing?(I would not apply this to players who got injured on the job or who made their teams so much freakin cashe ie Marketing Magic of Larry Bird.)

Whether retired or released, most players work with management towards a "buyout" of their contract.  However, unless they have retired because of injuries, that contract still applies toward the cap, in my understanding, until it comes of the books.  Even in retirement due to injury, part of it counts against the cap and it goes down per year.

I know Deke Tumble is still pulling 14 mil from the Nets.  Zobert also took zillions from the Nets.  Not sure about the rest.

I don't know all the rules, or all of the situations.  If a player is injured, and that injury leads to his retirement, that player gets paid.  GEnerally that is covered by insurance.  In these cases these players only count against the cap for 2 years from the time of the injury.

If a player retires, and isn't injured then he doesn't count against the cap, unless there is an agreement between the player and the team.  I the player is chooses not to continue playing then the team is not obligated to pay him.  The Bulls paid MJ after his first retirement, for a couple of reasons.  By paying him, they retained his rights, and retained his Bird rights.  If not he would have taken a huge pay cut, unless the Bulls were under the cap.  That was a choice the Bulls made, but it was not a requirement.

In the case of a buyout, the amount of the buyout is applied to the cap in equal amounts over the years of the original contract.  When Portland bought out Kemp, the buy out amount was spread over 2 years, as there were two years remaining on his contract at the time of the buyout.

As far as Sabonis, his deal was not guaranteed until a certain date (September 1).  Once that date passed it was guaranteed.  Portland released him prior to that date, and Sabonis was due nothing.  It was a team option, so I know the $3 million is incorrect.
