McDyess and Campbell
« on: March 03, 2005, 11:03:31 AM »
While a lot has been made of offseason trades, most obvious being Shraq and TMac, along with the recent trade deadline stuff CWebb etc...

Could Detroits pickup of Antonio McDyess and Elden Campbell be a huge difference maker in the playoffs?

McDyess is having a nice year, as always can his health hold up.
Campbell, while not setting the Pistons on fire, is giving 10 minutes a game and thats 10 minutes of rest for other Piston front liners.  Just as Zo can be a huge help to Shraq, Campbell could give a good little boost to the Pistons.

Joe D seems to have it goin on as GM.  Its all good in Detroit for now...

Detroit picked up Campbell again?  I hadn't heard that.  When did this happen?

Don't even think about it.....

I did hear correctly.

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) -- The Detroit Pistons added depth to their frontcourt Friday by signing center Elden Campbell.

The Pistons used Campbell off the bench to guard Shaquille O'Neal during last summer's NBA Finals win over the L.A. Lakers. They could use the veteran in a similar fashion during the upcoming playoffs as Detroit eyes a matchup with O'Neal and the Eastern Conference-leading Miami Heat.

Campbell, who was traded to Utah on Jan. 21 along with a future first-round pick for Carlos Arroyo, was waived by the Jazz and signed by the New Jersey Nets on Jan. 28.

In 10 games with the Nets, Campbell had two points, 11 rebounds and three assists in 50 total minutes. New Jersey waived Campbell this week.

Campbell, 36, averaged 4.2 points, 2.8 rebounds and 10.8 minutes in 21 games this season with Detroit. He appeared in 65 games last season and averaged 5.6 points and 3.2 rebounds in 13.7 minutes per game.

In a related move, the Pistons placed guard Horace Jenkins on the injured list with lower back spasms. In 14 games this season, Jenkins has averaged 2.6 points per game

Having a bigger body who is somewhat effective makes all the difference.  Even if he played 8 minutes a game.  Thats still 8 minutes each game to give one of the big men a breather.
