VC for EWill, AWill (Aaron Williams), Zo and 2 first round picks (Denver's and Philly's, both this year).

Nets didn't even have to take back rose.

Did I just hear Zo's kidney burst with fury? I think I did.

Good luck to Vince dealing with the always forgiving New York press and fans.  Oh wait, the Nets don't actually have any fans.  So Vince will get no support, just lots of media scrutiny.  Should work great.  :bash:

Actually I should take back the "no support" comment.  Once again, VC is somehow one of the leading vote getters for the All Star Game.  :moon:

I think the big thing for carter is he gets to go to a team that's NOT his.  He's no longer asked to be the emotional leader of the team, a role he can't (and doesn't want to) perform.  JKidd's got that title locked up.  I think this will help him out immensely.

I was just about to make a thread about this....WHO THE HELL IS STLIL VOTING FOR HIM?

If you check NBA.com you can see all the forwards he beat out.  Its sickening.  He hasnt had a dominating game in like 2 years.

I can't believe that Toronto did this deal.  They didn't get "shyte", for VC.  Portland offered Rahim, and would have added a #1 pick, but Toronto wouldn't do it unless Portland took on Jalen Rose.  Portland wouldn't, so Toronto trades VC for nothing?  Where is the logic in that?

This is how the salaries worked (at least close to the salaries)

Vince Carter
04-05  $12,500,000
Future amount owed
05-06  $13,500,000
06-07  $14,500,000
07-08  $15,500,000
So Toronto got out from underneath $43,500,000 in contracts for the length on Vince's contract.

They took on
Mourning
04-05  $5,600,000
Future amount owed
05-06  $6,250,000
06-07  $6,925,000

Aaron Williams
04-05  $3,175,000
Future amount owed
05-06  $3,425,000

Eric Williams
04-05  $6,100,000
Future amount owed
05-06  $6,700,000
06-07  $7,300,000

So they have taken on $30,600,000.  So long term they saved $13,000,000 over the next 3 years.

If they had taken on Rahim, salary for this year would have been equal, and then no requirements for next year.  They could choose to let Rahim walk and they save a huge amount, or they could resign.  Assume that Rahim signs for a similar amount to what Rasheed Wallace signed for, and Sheed and Rahim are very similar talents.  Well that would be $9,000,000 for 05-06 and $10,000,000 for 06-07, and then $11,000,000 for 07-08.  In the next 2 years they would have paid Rahim $24,600,000 less than the NJ players for next year and the year following, but would have taken on a 3rd year at $11,000,000.  They would have would have spent the same amount spread over 3 years, and they would have got a better player in Rahim than anybody they got.  That doesn't include the extra draft pick which would have been an additional salary to pay.  Anyway you look at Toronto got less talent, and saved less than they would have if they had taken on Rahim.

In other words it was stupid for Toronto to do the deal.

A quotation is a handy thing to have about, saving one the trouble of thinking for oneself.

Okay, this is pretty tough guys -- look at the forwards that are listed in the EC (also the number of votes cast for them):

Vince Carter (Tor.) 696,652
Grant Hill (Orl.) 552,328
Jermaine O’Neal (Ind.) 477,250
Rasheed Wallace (Det.) 332,820
Antawn Jamison (Was.) 128,514
Richard Jefferson (N.J.) 112,566
Tayshaun Prince (Det.) 107,003
Emeka Okafor (Cha.) 95,967
Dwight Howard (Orl.) 65,467
Drew Gooden (Cle.) 47,464

Grant Hill deserves the nod, IMO, because he is having a great year in Orlando -- but is VC?  Nope!  You really can't vote for JO, IMO, since he hasn't played for half the year at this point.  Sheed is an important member of the Detroit cast but he isn't having an All-Star year, IMO, which leaves Jamison and Jefferson to choose besides Hill -- which, IMO, is a VERY tough sell.

Now compare this to the WC:

Kevin Garnett (Min.) 751,586
Tim Duncan (S.A.) 570,090
Dirk Nowitzki (Dal.) 321,177
Carmelo Anthony (Den.) 232,844
Amaré Stoudemire (Pho.) 174,735
Peja Stojakovic (Sac.) 114,613
Andrei Kirilenko (Utah) 106,389
Chris Webber (Sac.) 105,283
Pau Gasol (Mem.) 85,765
Kenyon Martin (Den.) 83,356

Does everyone see this?  Dirk Nowitzki isn't even going to get a starting role in the All-Star game -- for having a career year (better year, IMO, than KG is having).  This doesn't even include Amare Stoudamire or Kirilenko.  ANY of these players, IMO, would get the nod over any forward in the EC.  All of these players should get the nod over Yao at this point, as well, IMO.

They ought to move TD to Center for the All-Star game so they can start TD, KG and Dirk in the frontcourt!  Wow, talk about rebounding power!

Also, the EC ought to do the same with Ben Wallace and Shaq.  Let Ben play PF and let Shaq start at center.  It's better than their alternatives!

The EC ought to do the same
