Board geeks,

keep the good data coming ie AMD vs p4 processors and ASUS motherboards.
Looking for new monitors.

What up?
Want one for daily use.  Not a gamer, but like to have that option.
Like the lighter ones, flat screen or otherwise light.
I know the VSonic ones are well reported on.

Used Viewsoncs when I worked at Merck.  Very good, and never had one fail on me in the 5 years I was there.  Much lighter than the ones from NEC, Mitsubishi, etc.

I would like to purchase an LED monitor myself, but I'll wait for the prices to drop lower first.

You can always buy a used monitor.  Big companies often get rid of them before they go bad.  Decent ones can last for years, if you have the deskspace for one.

And they're more than willng to give it to you.

Getting rid of monitors, legally like companies do, is a pain in the :moon:

Viewsonic rules.  Both for CRTs and Flat screens.  That is what we use at work also.  Company wide we have 300-400 viewsonic monitors if that explains how much my dept. loves the brand.

This is what I have at work and its the best monitor I've ever had.  Built in speakers (good for listening to clips or mp3s, as long as you dont "bump it"), crisp display, and of course it takes up no desktop space.

One more thing to take into mind Reality is that if for some freak reason your monitor goes out there are alot of places you can get your monitor repaired at and they will bill Viewsonic (if its under warrant) instead of you.  Since Viewsonic is a leader in the monitor biz they are heavily supported.

www.slickdeals.net

You have to check it often or sign up for their email alerts.

Got a 17" LCD flatscreen Dell, decent specs, for $221.00 with tax and shipping included.  They even threw in a mult-flash card reader in for free.

I've seen 19" LCD flatscreens from Dell for about $259.00.  It's a great site, I've bought over 5 computers and dozens of other things off this site.  It's a buch of geeks looking for free/cheap stuff day and night.

I'm using a Viewsonic 21" monitor at home, and two 18" NEC LCDs at work.  You'll hear me singing the praises of Viewsonic for quite some time, as I've had GREAT luck with their monitors.  My 21" is a re-furb, and I've had it for almost 5 years without the smallest hint of a problem.

However, the NEC LCDs are awesome, and given a choice, that's what you should do, especially if you're considering running dual monitors.  At first, I was skeptical about running dual monitors, but now, I'm trying to figure a way to clear up more desk space at home to do the same thing.  Being able to have tons of things open and able to see them all is awesome.

Also, let me throw in a good word for HP widescreen laptops.  I just got one this past week, and I love it.  Goes through the battery pretty fast, but it's exactly the kind of machine I've needed for a while.

1.  dabods how did you go about finding and obtaining used monitors for sale or giveaway at companies?

2.  Props for the site w.o.w.  Will look it up later.

3.  21 inch screens.  Sounds good.
