to make a serious run the The Big Unit, and IMO they have the best shot to get him. Should make up for the utter disaster that Colon has been.
WooHoo! While I would of course start him right now and esp in the playoffs, a talking head had what i think to be a good idea for Units long term. Bullpen. It would lengthen his career. Starting next year i would toss that one around. Or maybe combo. Spot starter and one inning closer for 2005 and beyond.
I was front and center for Colons last Anaheim start. Already by far the leauges leading pitcher in HRs allowed, he gives up 3 home runs in 3 innings and Soscia still would not pull him. Vs
the Dogers! Man did it suck. Angels came back
twice to pull within 5-4 but Soscial left him out in the 4th inning. A leadoff single and a walk. Bunt to advance, bam two run single. 7-4 and the crowd and Angels were just deflated.
I blame Soscia for an overdose of Colon. He banishes Ramon Ortiz to the bullpen where he can pitch his way back (who by the way responded beautifully) yet Colon is told loud and clear, screw up all you want, you wont get pulled. Favoritism to this extreme cant be good for locker room. I know there is lots of babble about how great Socia is but aside from the World Series Miracle comeback year he is 500.
Oh well they still are right there in the Mild West.
Hmmn Boston was said to be able to dangle Nomar G so can the Anglels beat that offer........
Urban legend:
Zig remember the famous Game 6 Angel comeback vs Giants? Down 5-0 in the 8th. Spezio at the plate. Fouled off 8 pitches before going yard. Dude who is a regular claims he knew he had to do something. He says for the 1st 7 pitches he walked down the aisle (not far) and stood and pointed and clicked his flash camera every time the Giant pitcher was about to unload. Says after the 7 fould balls he thought he would try something different. Says he did NOT click it on the 8th pitch the Spezio home run.
Thats what he says.......
