OT: Recyling, the 8 billion dollar a year lie!!!!!

Is nothing sacred?

There is a showed called Bullsh#% on cable TV.  They take any given subject and expose it via research and a bunch of comedy and insults.

Recycling turns out is a big scam that costs the American Tax payer 8 BILLION dollars a year.

It's more expensive to recycle everthing, except aluminum cans, than it is to manufacture it from scratch.  The expense comes in the form of retrieving, delivering, sorting and procession recyled material.  It also does more harm to the eviroment to run all these procession plants and the waste they produce.

You are not reducing the amount natural resources being utilize becuase the only one that is truely effected are trees to make paper.  What paper companies are required to do is re-plant trees they harvest and in fact there is one particular type of tree that is best for making paper so companies specialize in growing those trees.  They say is't like french fries, you will not wipe out the patato by eating french fies because it's a replenishable resource, just like trees.

We are not running out of landfill space either.  Currently there is enough landfill space to keep us going for a 10,000 years.  Landfills have a 1 in approximately a billion chance of causing a disaster.  They are designed very well and actually produce enough power to light up 60,000 homes for thirty years via methane capturing.  When all the garbage rots it creates methane, the land fills are designed and engineered to capture it all to create energy as well as keeping the surrounding area from stinking.  Once a landfill is full it is typically covered with topsoild and creates a very nice habitat for animals or can be converted into a park or golfcourse.  You can't tell it's there once it's been covered up.

The people employed by the gov to oversee the perpetuation of this lie are the same one's who created the panic back in the mid 80's and the ones profiting the most from this BS recyling effort.

In short, recyling does NOT help the enviroment, it doesn NOT reduce costs and is of no real benifit except create busy low paid work for many people and busy HIGH paid work for a very few select people.

Yes.

It's funny caused they started the show saying they've tackled topics that were not that difficult to expose and that people usually already knew where BS before they started but recyling seems to be a subject that has duped us all.

I'd have to see some more regarding the landfills but one thing I do recall reading was that plastic containers were being sent for recycling at a far faster rate than they are recycled.  There are massive piles of plastic that probably just continue sitting for eternity.

First off, that report is nearly 10 years old.

Second, the points they made are exactly the ones that were discredited.

Wrong on both counts.  Lets focus on paper since it addressed both.  Taking used paper and recyling it creates pollution becuase you have to treat the paper with chemicals including bleach.  It does NOT conserve natural resources for the reasons I stated before.  Did you actually read the post and your own article?  

Your article states: "Recycling reduces the pressure to turn natural forests into tree farms, creating substantial environmental and economic benefits. This effect is even more pronounced when paper recycling is viewed on a global level." That is just BS.  We have more "non-tree farm" forest space NOW than a hundred years ago.

The ONE reason that started the whole recyling movement was landfill space and even your articl admits: "Concentrating on landfill space misses the point. The greatest environmental benefits of recycling occur in reducing natural resource damage and pollution that arise when extracting virgin raw materials and manufacturing new products."  So the whole basis for recyling was made up bull$#%t yet you still want to swallow more.

How is that?  Do I even have to address that one?  Processing used material costs approximately 30% MORE than just using raw material because before you can get to the "raw" base material you have to process it, something you DON'T have to do when just using naturaly "raw" material.  Pretty OBVIOUS if you ask me.

"Recycling programs that are sensibly designed and implemented can be cost-competitive with solid waste landfilling and incineration."

I guess the gov can't step up and produce "sensibly designed" program.  Recyling is alot more expensive than landfilling and incineration mostly because of the sorting requirements.  In fact a large percentage of recycling material doesn't get recycled after it's been collected because it's to time consuming.

Recyling does in fact create jobs but it COSTS YOU and ME and the rest of the American taxpayers 8 BILLION dollar a YEAR!  Recyling does NOT pay for itself let alone reduce manufacturing costs.  The only reason it's an important economic factor is because it's a self serving busy work industry that costs us in tax dollars.
