domain names
« on: May 04, 2009, 10:05:16 PM »
So...I'm thinking of changing the name of phillyarena, mainly because right now I don't have the time (both in terms of writing and in developing the site) to cover all 4 sports.  Rather than do 4 sports half-assed, I'm thinking I'm going to try to do one sport well.

A couple of different domain names I've come up with:
sixersfans.com
sixersonline.com
sixersfocus.com
sixersbeat.com

thoughts?

The Sixers are pretty beat, but the name is harsh.

sixersource

one more, cheesey but catchy:

mr6er.com

That is if you don't mind being called Mr. Sixer.

My goal's not to make a blog/my opinion site but a resource.  that's what depressedfan's for.  mr6er sounds too, well, me focused.  The blog just happened to be the first thing that was ready.

don't like domains with numbers.
do kinda like sixersource.com though.  worried it would get mistyped too much (sixerssource.com, which is already taken) though.

I can see the spelling issue, but sixersource is catchy and descriptive of what you want to do.  You want to keep it short and simple.   Probably mrsixer.com is the best in terms of being short and easy to remember.

Of the ones you listed sixersfans probably has the best ring to it.  Is sixerfans also available?

Derek, I know Libertyballers used to be sixersoul, but changed its name for legal reasons.  You should look into that before buying a domain name.

See the old blog: http://www.sixersoul.com/ , jsams mentions changing the blog name for legal reasons.

Agree, if the Sixers are coming after bloggers for trademark infringement, then they are cutting off their nose to spite their face.

I can see them asking you to put a disclaimer notice, but beyond that?

You could avoid trademark issue with something using sixth instead of sixer.

But I agree, phillyarena is fine.  Does make me think its a Spectacor site, but whatever...

If you want to make it a resource, why not sixerstats (or sixersstats)? kinda like my favorite resource for things maryland related (terrapinstats.com)?

Unfortunately, it sounds like the team might shut you down if you use Sixer in the title.

So there will be no SixerElixer for us seek out the answer to all of our Sixer questions.
