Brand/Speights works well against almost anyone. Its Speights/Thad that can be trouble. But surprisingly, the Sixers have done pretty well with Speights/Evans.
Speights and Evans are both active guys who are extremely effective on the offensive boards. The problem with Speights and Thad is that neither is strong enough yet to properly guard a good PF or C down low. I really want to see Speights and Brand on the floor together, I think they can create all sorts of havoc with their range and ability to cut to the basket.
That is the pairing I'm hoping for as well. That was a great point about the EC centers, but we're looking for an advantage, not parity. Speights and Young aren't strong enough against the physical players, which is why we still need Sam. Eventually both of them will become strong enough to play their natural positions, but I don't ever want to see Thad bulk up so much that he plays PF. He's a big SF and that's where he should give us the biggest advantage. I'm also leery of asking Brand to play Center. He's a little short for a PF, but certainly strong enough. Speight is tall enough, but not strong enough yet. He does appear to have some attitude though.
The only one in the East that we can't match up with well is Howard, but then again, who can match up with that player?
