Ed's Conference Call Minutes
« on: August 21, 2008, 05:18:51 PM »
Apparently Ed had a conference call with several bloggers recently.  Here's the first response: http://www.depressedfan.com/basketball/sixers/ed-stefanski-conference-call.php

Has any Philly GM ever done more right so quickly?  He came in, he imposed his will on the court (play the young guys, Mo!), he imposed his will off the court (hey Elton, sup?), he made all the right little moves (added decent roleplayers for the minimum), and he has been totally open and seemingly truthful about just about everything when asked.  It really is refreshing.

The questions circled to the back court, and Andre Miller's contract situation. Here's what Ed had to say, "Andre does things a little differently from the young guys on the team. Andre likes to take the Summers off. And when I say off, I mean off. He's texted me a couple times to say he's happy with certain moves we've made, but I haven't talked to him. He does not have any representation right now, so we really don't know where he's at. Until he has representation we won't know."

If that means he's not picking up a basketball all summer then I don't really think they should try too hard to extend him right now. That may work when you're younger but eventually that will catch up to you.

I coule be wrong, but I get the feeling that's how Miller's always been. Hard to take issue with when he's only missed a handful of games due to injury in his entire career, and he's coming off one of his best seasons.

I think one of the criticisms of Miller is he generally comes into camp out of shape.  I don't think Ed was trying to say that he completely gets away, more that he becomes incommunicado, but I don't think it's completely untrue either.

Thanks, interesting read.  I'm really glad Rd is the GM.  Maybe he is just "lucky", but I've been impressed by how he runs the organization.
