David Stern to Dan Patrick "I'd like to punish floppers"

Guys what do you think?  David Stern was on Dan Patrick's show last week (I forgot to bring it up) talking about all things NBA.  Flopping came up and David Stern said he would like to punish players who flop.

Number 1: Is this even possible to do?

Number 2: If you think it is then how do you approach it?  Do you review flops after the game?  Do you give a technical, similar to a 3 second call, to the team?    What would make the most sense with out making the NBA refs jobs even harder then they are?

NBA refs were said to be getting advice from NHL refs, where flopping is penalized.  Dk what became of that exchange.  It appears nothing 

2.  I'm huge on use of replay.  Sounds like it will never happen.  For those of you who squak that it will slow the game down, not when you make Flagrant flopping a 20 point penalty like i would.

What would happen to Manu if you enforced this rule Reality?  He flops quite a bit and could make the Spurs the Timberwolves if your rule was in play.

I outlined a three tier system some time ago.

Level 1 is a slight flop, but a flop nonetheless.  Contact is initiated by the offensive player.  Say you run into Eric Dampier who is out of position.  He flops, but he really was hit.  A flop nonetheless.

Level 2 is GNob.  He gets great position, really does get offensively fouled, but flops as if an earthquake hit him to sell the call.  You know who else is "good" at this?  Fabs.  Very sneaky in real time.  Not so much on replay.  10 point penalty, 2 in 1 game is auto ejection.

Level 3 is Derek Swisher.  He initiates contact, flops like a chick at a West Hollywood swing dance and then does his PMS pouty face if he does not get the call.  20 points and automatic ejection from the dance, er game.  See how often he would keep that up.

I think it is something that should be addressed but I can't see how.  Most fans (and I think some refs)already have trouble understanding the difference between charging/blocking and then to add the interpretation of flopping will make it almost impossible.  Right now if you ask most fans their team always gets the wrong side of the block/charge call and the other team is all floppers.


If Shaq elbows the opponent in the chest and the guy falls backwards how far does he have to fall back for it to be a flop instead of a charge?

Will a player with long hair (Varejao) be punished because his hair makes contact look harder than it was?

Did you see him cheapshot Duncan with the elbow to the rib as Tim was fully exposed.  I was saying to myself as Tim went up, don't expose yourself to that cheapskate, i see it coming.

Also I watched him purposely trip tim from behind as Shaq lie on the floor as Tim got an O rebound.  Was not a vicious trip but he most def kicked out at tims shin.  I guess you could say good gamesmanship 

Lastly the hand to Tims eye.  From what i know of Shaq that was not unintentional.  I'm not kidding.

In the NHL absolutely.  Should be in the NBA also.

Lets be honest...we've all called Derek Fisher a flopper, we acknowledge it.  Today was the first time I seen Reality really admit that Manu is like a rag doll when he goes to the rim without some BS spining at the end "B-Rad, He is not flopping Sternfish told Raja Bell to take steroids before the game to get stronger so he could drop the atom bomb on him on the way to the rim"
