Firefox - bookmarks gone, new toolbars downloaded..
« on: February 21, 2007, 12:03:55 AM »
I turned on my computer and went to firefox to find some toolbars downloaded and all of my bookmarks gone.  It's like I uninstalled and re-installed it on my computer.  I thought that maybe it updated on it's own (which I don't believe I would allow on my system) but it's got some previously added "addons" still on it.  so it couldn't have been uninstalled otherwise that stuff wouldn't be there.  Any thoughts guys.  I scanned my computer and don't see any trojans, no new ports are openning, I can't find anything.  Has this ever happened to anyone else using Firefox??

Of course last night there WAS an auto download - a windows download - that did it's thing during shut down, it's pretty rare that I see one of those.  It just says "windows is shutting down, one of one updates downloading."   you think Microsoft could have done this with one of it's own updates??
On the set of Walker Texas Ranger Chuck Norris brought a dying lamb back to life by nuzzling it with his beard. As the onlookers gathered, the lamb sprang to life. Chuck Norris then roundhouse kicked it, killing it instantly. The lesson? The good Chuck giveth, and the good Chuck, he taketh away.

go into

c:\documents and settings\your name\favorites

Do you see anything in there?  If you do then uninstall Firefox and reinstall it.  For whatever reason it is not picking that folder up and I don't think it would be as simple as telling it to import your favorites.

If you do not see anything in that folder then all the favorites got deleted somehow and it is not anything you can really do.  Firefox would not delete them and I don't think a windows update would either.
