NFL technical question
« on: November 20, 2006, 12:45:39 AM »
Partyball in San Diego is so alive its unreal.
1st team in NFL history 12,324 games to come back and win from -17 on consecutive games.
1st team to win 4 straight games while giving up at least 24 points.

Is it too alive?
1st team?? to almost lose a game when all they had to do was sit on the ball the final series?
Or is it.  Help me out here.

On 4th down, when a team does not get the running 1st down or touchdown, thus the ball goes over to the other team on possession.  Does the clock stop?  Other team has no timeouts.[/size]

Scene was:
Chargers lead 28-27 with ball.
2 minute warning.
2nd and goal from the 1 yard line.
Hike ball, Phillip Rivers drops to knee.
Clock runs down to 1:25
3rd down.  Denver has no timeouts.  Can Chargers just hike n sit two more times?
Or would time remain on change of possession.
3rd down LT runs it in for touchdown.  35-27 with 1:14 left.
Chargers cannot lose, right?
Wrong.  What follows was a nightmare.  Anywho after Denver advanced the ball 70 yards to the Charger 30, Jake the Snake choked a fumble away and San Diego still was stoopid enough to knock the ball out of bounds. :bash:  :bash:  For reasons i still dont know the ref signaled the game over.
