Drawing a charge, should this be a trackable stat?

Should the amount of charges you draw be a stat that is tracked by the league?  What is your take on it?  IMO this is a defensive stat (at least when they are not flopping) and should be noted as it is a turnover once the call is made.

I think so.  It often requires hard work to get down the floor and in a postion to block the driver and not be below the circle.

The only problem is a lot of times, refs don't call it the right way, so sometimes the blocker gets punished with a foul call.

I think fouls drawn should be tracked before drawing a charge.  FT's are not always awarded if a player is fouled so there should be a seperate stat for drawing a foul.

They also sometimes do not call it the right way when a player flops so tracking the stat can do one of two things..

1) You can see who are very good position defenders and get extra trips for their team along with a stop on the other end.

2) You can see if certain players really do act more than others.  Seeing Manu drawing 40 more calls than everyone else at the end of the year may say something.

I actually think Harvey Pollack does track this.

It's not released officially by the NBA, but I'm quite sure it's tracked.

Go to 82games.com, and select a team, and then a player.  On the player page, near the top in blue it will say "player stats", choose that, and it will have a stat for fouls drawn.

A quotation is a handy thing to have about, saving one the trouble of thinking for oneself.

now if someone would track it minus flops, we'd be set.

It's basically fg% with the extra weight of 3pters factored in.

Equation:
((2ptFgm*2+3ptm*3)/(fga*2))*100
