Spurs 3-2
« on: May 18, 2005, 12:31:05 AM »
:hail: GNob
:ding: Pop :eek2: allowed offense to open the 2nd half.
Team D.
Nazrs catch n dunks.
Dunkers jump hooks.
Tony P 2nd qtr repeatedly driving it hard to the hoop even tho the shots kept barely rolling off.  That is one way of slowing down Rindour and Allen.
100+ pts = 6-0 Spurs.

concerns:
No way Seattle lays down in Game 6.  It was 80-75 3 minutes into the 4th qtr.

Dunkers health.  Just doesnt look right.  Pulling up a lot on D when usually he would be more aggressive.  Duncans whining about some very marginal calls.  I expect that out of a Kobe Bryant, not Tim Dunker.

Pops Dump It To Tim and Stand O continued much of 4th.  In transition Spurs would hustle it up past half court then slow it down for 5 seconds per Pops orders.  Simply lets the Sonics rest, accomplishes nothing.

Tony Longorias shooting.  Yes the late jumpers were nice but game was essentially over by then.

reality, Pop always allows the offense to flow, if the shots are not there you cant blame pop for that.  game five was a horrible game because of the players, but i wont hold pop accoutnable for that mess nor game 3 - bad free throws.

glad to see the spurs win last night, now they have to win in seattle.

as for tim, I dont know if he is unhealthy...he had a monster game the other night, and ontop of that you got some big guys slamming into him in fortson and james, tim is taking a beating out there, it's bound to wear on him each game.

:nonono:  After the nachos Grande you ate and how many beers? it slowed your metabolism, making the Spurs O seem to flow.  After the 17 point lead they totally went into slow mode.  Taped the game.  You can come over and watch it.  Esp right after they cross half court.  Purposely slow everything down, allows all 5 Sonics to stand n rest.

When they flowed it was WooHoo!  GNob rules and if Tony P is going to miss, at least he can do it driving the ball hard to the hoop.  Those fouls he was drawing were sweet, esp the one against Fortson.  Spurs FT shooting...yeesh.
Ray Allen is playing great.  And that Wilkins, the nephew of Dominique.  Wow.  I predict Gm 6 is gonna be tough.

I forgot to prop Bruce Bowens D.  One gets used to it, he's so consistent.  Ditto Bob Horry on D.

Whats Devin Browns exact injury status?

Worst display of offciating ever.  You got the tape?  Good.  Watch how many calls went against the Sonics from 5 min. left down to 2 and a half minutes.  The game was decided by the refs not the players.

This was the point in the game where the Sonics were trying to come back and win the game.  Instead of seeing a nail-biting finish, we were treated to a bunch of calls going against the Sonics, so many that they couldn't even get a shot off.

So Spurs fans can be happy about the win, but it's not because of what they're team did on the floor, but what the refs did for them.

Thanks a lot, Stern.  You moron!  Your referees are destroying the game.  They have no clue as to when to make a call and when to swallow their whistle.

You're wrong Rick, favorable calls only apply to the Lakers, no way do they give San Antonio "The Fix", you must be mistaken.

The logic behind it is that the hometeam gets home cooking because 1) its their home and 2) fans dont show up at their teams building, paying an insane amount of money per ticket, to see there team get whistled for everything.......sounds stupid, I agree, but thats the logic.  Thats how the NBA thinks.....I mean this is the same NBA that runs commercials about Wade saying his best quality is letting Shaq be the man after comming off a 30+ 15 assist game.  You know like that isnt special cuz only people like Magic, Oscar Robinson, and 2 other hall of famers (whos names i forget now) are the only ones to do it in history.

4:22 93-81 GNob is fouled by Wilkens.  I would not have given Wilkens a flagrant.  He was going for the ball and did not swat at GNobs head or body him out of the ordinary.  Of course otherwise it was a foul.

3:36 97-81 Fortson Offensive foul on GNob.  They are both shoving for position, Fortson trying to get into the paint and under the basket, GNob trying to body him out.  Refs letting the whole process go, neither getting an unfair advantage.  Then Fortson swats at and hits Gnobs face with a fully extended left hand.  This isn't De'Reek Fisher being allowed to rest his hand on A.I.s face.  Easy call.  Definite foul.

3:00 97-81 Allens shot rims off.  Ridnour with rebound, which he cant controll.  In the scramble for the ball he and GNob lock arms momentarily.  As Ridnour falls he pulls Gnob down with him.  Ball bounces away to Spurs.  Tweet.  Call against GNob.  Bogus call.  At the least should have been a double foul or no call.  Or foul on Ridnour.

2:36 99-83 ADaniels loses ball of Dunkers knee.  Bob Horry and ADaniels dive at the exact same time and bump each other.  Horry called for the foul.

That's a wrap for 5;00 to 2:00 4th.
rt you must mean some eariler time frame?

78-68 11 minutes left in 4th Dunker tries to force a change of direction, Collison steals it in midturn.  Jump ball IMO.  Or clean steal for Collison.  Duncan should not have gotten FTs.

Im convinced you cant go like 3-4 posts without talking about the Lakers

The refs were in SAs favor last night......but that wouldnt be any different than any other playoff game where the better team gets the benefit of the calls.

There is a reason Manu gets whistled alot and its because he draws too much attention to himself by doing that floppy rag doll crap he likes to do like hes not strong enough to withstand bumps (but can body up with Forston), he flops with the best of em, and he makes bad decisions.

Reality, here's the blow by blow from NBA.com:

(5:15)    [SEA] Daniels Running Jump: Missed
    (5:13)   [SAN] Duncan Rebound (Off:3 Def:11)
(5:07)   [SAN 93-81] Horry Slam Dunk Shot: Made (4 PTS) Assist: Ginobili (6 AST)
(4:51)   [SEA] Allen Driving Layup: Missed Block: Horry (2 BLK)
    (4:49)   [SAN] Ginobili Rebound (Off:2 Def:2)
(4:39)   [SAN] Duncan Jump Shot: Missed
(4:38)   Horry Jump Ball Horry vs Fortson
    (4:38)   [SAN] Horry Rebound (Off:3 Def:2)
(4:22)   [SEA] Wilkins Foul: Flagrant Type 1 (3 PF)
    (4:22)   [SAN 94-81] Ginobili Free Throw Flagrant 2 of 2 (38 PTS)
    (4:22)   [SAN 95-81] Ginobili Free Throw Flagrant 1 of 1 (39 PTS)
(4:14)   [SEA] Wilkins Foul: Personal (4 PF)
(4:03)   [SAN] Bowen Jump Shot: Missed
    (4:01)   [SAN] Horry Rebound (Off:4 Def:2)
(3:47)   [SAN 97-81] Duncan Turnaround Jump: Made (20 PTS)
(3:36)   [SEA] Fortson Foul: Offensive (5 PF)
(3:36)   [SEA] Fortson Turnover: Foul (2 TO)
(3:36)   [SEA] Fortson Substitution replaced by Collison
(3:22)   [SAN] Ginobili Turnover: Bad Pass (1 TO) Steal: Allen (1 ST)
(3:07)   [SAN] Duncan Violation: Kicked Ball
(3:01)   [SEA] Allen Jump Shot: Missed
    (3:00)   [SEA] Ridnour Rebound (Off:3 Def:2)
(2:59)   [SAN] Ginobili Foul: Personal (4 PF)
    (2:59)   [SEA] Team Timeout: Regular
    (2:59)   [SEA 82-97] Ridnour Free Throw 1 of 2 (11 PTS)
    (2:59)   [SEA 83-97] Ridnour Free Throw 2 of 2 (12 PTS)
(2:42)   [SAN 99-83] Parker Jump Shot: Made (7 PTS)
(2:26)   [SAN] Horry Foul: Personal (5 PF)
    (2:26)   [SEA 84-99] Daniels Free Throw 1 of 2 (16 PTS)
    (2:26)   [SEA 85-99] Daniels Free Throw 2 of 2 (17 PTS)
(2:03)   [SAN] Bowen Jump Shot: Missed
    (2:02)   [SEA] Ridnour Rebound (Off:3 Def:3)

IMO Allen was fouled on that miss at 4:51.  Next bad call was the jump ball.  It should have been Seattle's ball as Horry forced his way to get it.  Then Wilkens gets called for a flagrant, when it was nothing of the kind.  Not only do the Spurs get two free throws, but the ball back. The Spurs get tow more shots at the basket, and manage to make one.  That's a four point swing for the Spurs, all caused by the officials.  To add insult to injury, the clock is now at 3:47, and time is running out for Seattle.  Next thing that happens?  Fortson gets called for an offensive foul and a turnover.   At this point the game is over.  The Sonics are too far behind to have a chance to get back in the game thanks to the refs, not the play of the Spurs.

I don't really care who wins the series, I just want to see good basketball.  Instead, I saw what could have been an exciting game turned into an easy win for the Spurs by the refs. What's the point of playing if you don't have a chance to win?  What's the point of watching if the win is determined by one-sided calls?

>IMO Allen was fouled on that miss at 4:51.>

By Parker?  Possibly.  However defenders are allowed the space above them, to jump straight up.  Did Parker jump before or as Allen jumped into Parker?  Also was Parker outside the little arc.  It was close.

>Next bad call was the jump ball. It should have been Seattle's ball as Horry forced his way to get it.>

Absolutely not.  Horry had position for the rebound, got both hands on it initially.  Wilkins put his left hand-arm on Horry and reached for the ball with his right.  Technically it was a foul on Wilkins.  Im fine with the jump ball call.

>Then Wilkens gets called for a flagrant, when it was nothing of the kind. Not only do the Spurs get two free throws, but the ball back. The Spurs get tow more shots at the basket, and manage to make one. That's a four point swing for the Spurs, all caused by the officials.

Wilkins definitely fouled GNob.  So the two foul shots were going to come anyways.  Agree it was not a Flagrant, ball have should not have gone back to Spurs.  2 point diff, not 4.

< To add insult to injury, the clock is now at 3:47, and time is running out for Seattle. Next thing that happens? Fortson gets called for an offensive foul and a turnover. At this point the game is over.>

Fortson extended his arm and swatted GNob in the jaw.  Refs gotta call that.

<The Sonics are too far behind to have a chance to get back in the game thanks to the refs, not the play of the Spurs.>

80-71 10:30 left in 4th.  James drives and tries to force a one handed tomohawk dunk.  GNob gives help D and cuts in front.  As both in air, James clearly pushes off with left arm.  Dunk misses, rebound carooms off 30 ft.  GNob called for foul. :nonono:   After the left hand push by James, GNob barely grazed James.  Weak call, James bailed out big time.
