When the Colts really lost
« on: January 18, 2005, 09:11:06 PM »
Game 1 of the 2004 season in September.
Manning drives the Colts to the New England 17 yard line.  33 seconds remain.  3rd and 8.  Even if they don't gain a yard its a chip shot 34 yard field goal attempt.
Instead Manning gets sacked for -12.  4th down Mike Vanderjagt misses the 48 yard attempt.  His 1st miss after 42 straight successes.

13-3 vs 14-2.  Playoff in Foxboro instead of Indiana Dome.  That was the difference maker to me.  Colt recievers didn't hold on to a thing in the cold.

Props to Pats.  They are on the verge of being a dynasty or at least a mini dynasty if they go 3 out of 4 in Bowls.  We'll see if they can take down Steelers at Pitt.

NE would have still won playing in Indianapolis.  It wasn't the weather or the fans that beat the Colts.  It was the Patriots superior defense.  Manning looked like a piker against the Pats secondary, who was without it's best player. Ty Law.

The game might have been a bit closer in Indy but the Pats have done it for several years now, and it's no accident.  Only Pittsburgh and Philly have a shot at beating them.  Pitttsburgh because they can run the ball down your throat and stuff your offence, and Philly because they can score with anyone and have the best secondary in the league.

Philly will have a better chance if they play the Patriots in the supe, since they're very tough to throw on.  With Pittsburgh they have to be able to stop Bettis and Staley and that's very hard to do for an entire game.  Then again, Philly should be able to hold onto the ball with Westbrook and get out to a lead against Pittsburgh.  The Steelers can't stick with the run if they fall behind, and Rothlesberger can't get them back into it if they do.
