Yes and No. The Lakers have not even surpassed the Celtics in NBA titles. NYY own the MLB record by far. What it does mean is that Yankee opponent often behaves like Laker opponent. Specifically coaches.

Shooting under 50% on FTs = baseball version of walking batters, the likes of which end up scoring runs in a game the Yank opponent otherwise had in the bag.* Yankee adherents, like Laker adherents, would point to rrrrrrraaaaaaagghgggh tough Laker D causing the opponents to miss FTs. We know that isn't so. Likewise in baseball, a walk is usually entirely up to the pitcher. Exceptions are bogus umpiring or batter doing good job of fouling off pitches and tiring pitcher out, thus he finally does throw balls. This did not happen AT ALL vs Skankiees and MN.
*In baseball its also wise to at times purposely walk a batter. Ie Braves vs Houston Astros, man on second and 1st base open. Phil "Gardy" then elected to pitch to JD Drew instead of walking with 1st base open. Dumb dumb strategy.
Curt Shill is a pitcher who has none of this mental meltdown nonsense that Yankee and Laker opponents both have. Only time Shill has faced Skunkies in World Series was with Arizona Diamondbacks. Shill was superb along with Randy Johnson but oh how so very hard did Arizona manager try to hand the series to NY.
