Anyone else partaking this year? Ted, dabods, if I recall correctly you guys partake.

I draft this weekend so if anyone has any tips on your team I'd love to hear them.  Iggle fans I'd particularly like to hear from you as I am considering making an early effort at getting Westbrook as a 2nd RB.

For the Vikes, well obviously you should take Moss and Culppeper.  Michael Bennett doesn't score a lot of touchdowns but will get plenty of yards and would be a great pickup if you leagure rewards long plays.   Moe Williams would be an excellent late pickup in leagues that emphasize touchdowns over yards.  Kleinsasser will be very solid at TE.  Avoid kicker Aaron Elling.

The Vikes D might get a lot  turnovers but will give up big yards.

I'm actually not playing this year.  Had far too many different leagues going last year and I'm trying to cut it back.

Last year I had 4 fantasy basketball leagues.  Now I'm down to 2.  I've dropped all my fantasy football (I think I had 2 leagues last year).  I have, however, picked up a Fast Break Basketball league, which is great.

I'll probably end up doing a survivor or pick'em type thing, something that's a lot less time consuming.

As for westbrook, great pick for a 2nd back, especially with Buckhalter's injury.  the guy has a knack for the endzone, a great receiver, and good ypa's.  He should get enough carries this year to easily exceed 1000 yards, if....

he doesn't get injured.  That's the one question mark he has.

Here's how my draft played out. I picked tenth out of ten.

1. Deuce McAllister, RB, NO
2. Daunte Culpepper, QB, MIN
3. Steve McNair, QB, TEN
4. Terrell Owens, WR, PHI
5. Andre Johnson, WR, HOU
6. Quentin Griffin, RB, DEN
7. Willis McGahee, RB, BUF
8. Jerry Porter, WR, OAK
9. Marcus Pollard, TE, IND
10. Rich Gannon, QB, OAK
11. Brian Urlacher, LB, CHI
12. Antoine Winfield, DB, MIN
13. Chris Draft, LB, ATL
14. Moe Williams, RB, MIN
15. Keith Brooking, LB, ATL
16. Stephen Jackson, RB, STL
17. Dante Hall, WR, KC
18. Janikowski, K, OAK
19. Adam Archuleta, DB, STL

Here's how I see Fantasy Football. Always get a premier running back first. They are the most scarce commodity. Then pick up your quarterback, unless another premier running back is available. Running backs get the most fantasy points, plain and simple. I think last year the order was Priest, LT, Ahman Green, then Peyton and Culpepper, then Jamal Lewis, Deuce McAllister, and Portis. Then Moss and a couple of quarterbacks made up the top twelve.

My theory. Pick the best talent available and ignore regardless of your positional needs, within reason.

Offense comes first. Save defense until at least after round 10.

If you do pick a RB first, you're probably sacrificing a chance at Manning, and maybe Culpepper. But there are a lot of QBs who can get you points. One guy I think will be strong this year is Hasselbeck, and he should be available in the second round. He was one of those quarterbacks in the top twelve.

Also, if you're in a league that values return yards highly, keep an eye out for Dante Hall. I'm in a league that values return yards the same as receiving yards. Last season, Hall had over 1900 yards on returns alone. NINETEEN HUNDRED. The 400 receiving yards were just a bonus. In fact, in my league, Hall would be the tenth best receiver in the league. Not bad for the 17th round.  B)

My offensive sleepers (some aren't really that sleepy):
Quentin Griffin (starting for the Shanahan RB Factory)
Rudi Johnson (starting all year in up and comping Cincy)
Hasselbeck (Shaun Alexander and two really good receivers and a great O line)
Brian Westbrook (no Duce, no Correll)
Marcus Robinson (on the other side from Moss)
Dante Hall (if you're in the right league)
Kevin Barlow (Garrison is finally gone)
Tim Rattay (better than Garcia)
Rich Gannon (I'm hoping)
Domanick Davis (14 games, 1,031 yards, 8 TDs on 238 carries, 47 catches for 351 yards)
Moe Williams (will be goal line and pass catching juggernaught)

Defense
Save these guys for the late rounds. Most people always waste early picks on guys like Ray and Urlacher (who are good) early. Look for the LBs and DBs who had a lot of tackles. Guys like Dan Morgan, Chris Draft, Keith Brooking rack up the tackles each week. I like to be able to count on my defensive players each week. I don't like to have to hope for an interception to get D points. IMO, linebackers are king. Don't waste a pick on a DL. Sack specialists like Jevon or Ogunleye are horrible for fantasy points. Pick only DBs who get tackles. IMO the best DB last year was Antoine Winfield: 94 solo tackles only one pick. Rodney Harrison is dang good too. Counting on interceptions and touchdowns for fantasy points is risky. Pick up guys who earn points each game, by tackling.

And my one last piece of "wisdom"

Don't pick Donovan McNabb with your first pick. He is not a fantasy QB. Last year he scored behind Manning, Culpepper, Hasselbeck, Green, McNair, Favre, Brooks, Kitna . . . KITNA!!, B. Johnson, Bulger, Garcia, and Brady. In fact, McNabb barely beat out such juggernaughts as Quincy Carter and Tommy Maddox.

Some poor fool picked McNabb fifth in the draft, and dropped Culpepper into my lap with my second pick. BWWAAAHAHAHAHAAAAAA! Of course, I then went and drafted Willis McGahee in the seventh.  Oh well, we all screw up sometimes.

I love football.

Oh, by the way, don't draft Ricky Williams in the second round and drop someone like McNair in an opponent's lap.

Well here's my results.  I am VERY pleased.  Keep in mind this an 8 team league, geared toward touchdowns more than yardage, and TEAM defense, rather than individuals.

Shaun Alexander
Deuce McAllister
Terrell Owens
Javon Walker
Koren Robinson
Tom Brady
T.J. Duckett
Trent Green
Plaxico Burress
Isaac Bruce
Bronco's D
Jeff Wilkins
Kevin Jones
Reggie Wayne

I feel like a complete lunatic for taking Alexander third with Ladanian on the board, but when I look at the Chargers I see NO wide receivers, NO quarterback, and an already weak line that lost some people.  I forsee teams put 8 men up so often that not even LT's immense talent can overcome it.

Very happey to get Deuce late in the 2nd round.  Plust getting Duckett 11 touchdowns in the 6th looks great.

What about McNabb and T.O.?  In the pre-season game I got to catch of the Eagles McNabb/T.O. look like one of the better duo's in the league.

Edit: you did get T.O.!  Good choice.  Eagles look like they will do pretty good this year.  As for my Raiders, who knows.  Lets hope once the starting players take the field for a full game that the defense will look even better.

Yeah, on a personal level I reeaally dislike T.O.  On the other hand you can't let those kind of things get in the way when you draft.  I almost took Garcia in the last round just for the irony of it.

The potential downside is that wide receivers who change teams rarely maintain their previous levels and often crash and burn.  Think Joey Galloway, Alvin Harper, David Boston, and before your time, J.J. Jefferson who went from megastar with Dan Fouts throwing him the ball to absolute loser in Green Bay.  Plus if that happens T.O. will pout and dog it.  I have NEVER seen a guy quit on game like he did last year against the Vikes.  He let a nobody named Brian Williams take the ball away from him 4 or 5 times.

McNabb is not a great pick for our format.

You know, TO might be an annoying jerk, but this is a guy who's never been caught with drugs, never laid a hand on a woman, never been arrested, never cheated on his wife, never spit on a guy, threw a man through a window at a bar, doesn't have any abandoned kids out of wedlock and doesn't have a gambling addiction.  Not to mention he's one of the hardest workers in the league.

By all accounts, he's perfect citizen off the field.  It sometimes amazes me the amount of hatred going around for him.  Do people hate Jamal Lewis, Quincy Carter, Dr J, Charles Barkley, Kobe Bryant, any Dallas Cowboys player that played in the 1990's, or any of the other players I described above this much?

You want to talk about a class A bad guy, that Zach Randolph fellow has a rap sheet 10x as bad as TO, about issues a little more severe than questioning a guys sexuality (come on, like he's the first guy who thought Garcia might be at the minimum a switch hitter).

Each and every NFL locker room is filled with macho guys who have this tough football image they portray.  What is the #1 way to get at any jock, muscle head, or manly man pissed off and laughed at by his peers?  Call him gay or call him a "B".

T.O. is gonna play well this year.  Im riding for him to give Randy Moss a run for his money.  Like db said, hes no more an idiot than Kobe, AI, Zach Randolph, or Charles Barkley. He made a few poor decisions this off season but he did not put himself in legal trouble.
