Rumors of Cavs/Seattle/Portland deal
« on: July 15, 2004, 08:01:08 PM »
Cleveland gives Illguaskis and gets Rahim

Portland gives Rahim and gets Ray Allen

Seattle gives Ray Allen and gets Illguskis

This was reported on KATU in Portland.  I had also heard scuttlebutt that Portland would add DA to Seattle, and take back Calvin Booth, in addition to the other 3 players mentioned above.

Not a bad move for Portland.  Ray Allen still is one of the most underrated offensive players in the game.  Im suprised more people dont talk about him.  The guy hardly ever misses and his jump shot makes me  :hail: .  A team can never go wrong with picking up a shooter like Ray Allen.  Great player and no super ego.

Rahim would be an alright pick up for the Cavs too....but wtf is Seattle thinking?  How many GMs in the league have been eating some off-season retard cookies?

With hte amount of money seattle already has tied up in centers, they wouldn't do this in a million years.

not to mention they both (allen and Z) have expiring deals, so no benefits there.

This trade is the dream of some Portland fan!  The Sonics are willing (and looking) to trade Allen at this point but they are INSISTING on a post player in return.  Allen is a legit star in this league -- a tremendous shooter, great player, great role model (i.e. team chemistry, etc.), and an underrated defender -- there is NO way that the Sonics are going to take a stiff like Ilgauskas for Allen.  They MIGHT take Rahim if Portland throws in DA as well but only after they have exhausted any other offers.

I agree Randy, this is not a smart deal for Seattle.  Illguaskis is a top 10 center, but he is not even in the same dimension as Ray Allen.  For Portland this would be Nirvana.  I believe Portland would offer Rahim and DA for Ray Allen, and take on Calvin Booth to make salaries work in a heartbeat.

The reporter on this does have some credibility though, because they reported the McInnis for Miles deal before it happened, and that deal involved Cleveland and Portland.
