Yao out for the rest of the playoffs.
« on: May 09, 2009, 08:26:48 PM »
Hair-line fracture in his foot, he's done for this year.  Too bad, the series was good from the first game.  I wonder how the Rockets and Lakers will react.  The Rockets are now extremely thin in the front court, they have no true center.

This is too bad.  He was playing well.  This is more of the same with Yao, his lower body just doesn't seem to be able to handle the pounding of playing in the NBA.

I know that no NBA owner-management and/or coach will ever implement this, but would it be so unsound and unheard of to have had a player like Yao playing 50 games a regular season and thereby getting him all kinds of rest between games and saving it for the playoffs?

Same with GNob, many others.  Foot injuries are chronic in the NBA.  To me many times it's cumulative, even if one awkward fall does produce the eventual crack.
Red A was suggesting getting all involved (greedy shoe makers, billionaire owners, multimillionaire players, etc) by putting enough money into a study on foot injuries.  Ended up just being talk -no action.

Board Q.  Have any of you ever had a foot injury?
Me?  Yes.  Overdid it on concrete one day.  Hairline.  Recovered but missed playoffs.

They guy from day one was pegged for injury problems because of his size.  His non-stop playing for the NBA and China does not help.

I'll have to post pictures of my ankles.

Right ankle has been twisted in both directions so many times that it's truly hideous-looking.  And I've sat out of games before because of ankle trouble, but I don't COME OUT of games with twisted ankles.  It's easier to play on them...hence the reason my ankles look like they do.

Skander and Caleb can back me up on this one.

Rockets are now 4-0 lifetime vs the Lakers when Yao is out.

To counter, the Lakers are starting Bennett Salvatore so be on the lookout for a "Heart of a Champion" type performance.
