I would actually consider getting "nothing" for Sam.  if we could get back an expiring and a prospect then the team would be 12M under the cap next summer after Miller retires.

This summer will be a buyers market since no one wants to take on a big contract a year before the epic summer '10 FA class.

WHy can't Speights play center?  I mean he's taller than Brand - he's not exactly 'small' -

And what is there to buy in terms of point guard?  who can pass before he shoots but is also an outside shooting threat?

jem:

The only reason that I said it like that is we thought we were getting an $80 million dollar PF.

Speights can play C...but when 1) Thad slides to the 4 or 2) we bring in Evans or Marshall (how about that?), we will need Brand to play the 5.  I know that I didn't expect him to play 12-15 minutes a game at C...but it now makes all the sense in the world (particularly if Lou plays like that)...

FINALLY, the Sixers played a good game and didn't give up, even when they fell behind!

I don't know if the Pistons are a good team as they are now, but the Sixers did beat them without their best player so it counts for something.

Starting Speights and Dalembert was fine, only because Detroit didn't try to go big later in the game. The Sixers are short at Center and PF in terms of numbers, so having them both on the floor is more of a luxury than a normal line-up.

Iguodala is starting to relax and play more like the player he is capable of.  He did a great job at the 2 spot last night, and didn't fold when Prince was guarding him-more often than not. I was amazed to see them attempting to guard Thad Young with Rip Hamiliton, and more than a little annoyed that Cheeks didn't attempt to post up Thad.

The team is still a work in progress, but I'm starting to see signs of the team coming around.  The biggest difference is that Iguodala and Williams are starting to make their shots. If they can get 30 pts. a night out of those two, they should be in a position to win most nights. Miller is still shooting too much himself, but since he's shooting about 50% and getting to the foul line with regularity, I can't complain.  It would be  better if he was passing more, but he's not really a good point guard- he never hits a player coming off a cut or on the screen and roll, ever!

Speights is continuing to develop, and I really like the way he plays.  I thought Cheeks could have played him more later in the game, but I suppose he didn't want to mess with the chemistry. Marshall was playing well, and Detroit wasn't hurting them on the boards.

Out of the three players Stefanski added at the end, Ivey, Rush and Marshall, the only one worth keeping is Donnyell.  The two others are barely adequate as back-ups and have yet to do anything to distinguish themselves.  But Donnyell can stretch the floor and make shots. I think we can expect to see more of him even when Brand gets back.

I thought the biggest difference in this game was Lou plaing and scoring like Lou.  He seemed to run primarily off the ball and looked like he had some of his confidence back.  If he can get going with any consistency the second unit will be much better, plus we can play EB, Thad, Miller, Iggy and Lou during the ned of close games like we did last year.  Here is hoping he keeps it up and that Mo keeps him playing off the ball for the most part.

Interesting no one took more than 11 shot yesterday... and the team got to the line and hit nearly all its FT's.
---
Lou still plays best alongside other starters.  I'm not sure he can 'lead' a bunch of scrubs and be effective.  Last year he often ran next to Ollie on the 2nd team, which took away the playmaking burden.  Mo has tried the same thing using Ivey, but with less success.
---
Hope to see incremental progress from Speights tonight assuming he gets another start.
---
As for Donyell- great Big Shot Robert Horry impression.  Hopefully he can assume that marginal but useful role for this team.
---
don't know how much to make of the team regaining its 'heart' from last year and fighting back on the one game Brand is out.  Hopefully this kickstarts something, but who knows with this team?

Has anyone heard anything on Brand's status for tonight's game?

I read a report before the Pistons games that he would miss tonight's game too.  I guess that is subject to change.

During the game yesterday they said he would be re-evaluated before tonight's game.  With three days off coming up I highly doubt they risk playing him against the Nets tonight.
