How would you defend this play? Wiz endgame.

3.8 tics left.  Raptors inbounds from endcourt with football type pass to Wiz FT line.
Wiz Michael Ruffin stretches out and gets hand on pass much like a football db tips pass away.
Ball bounces down to floor, then right back up to Ruffin who had regathered his balance.
He horks the ball in the air hoping the clock will run out.

Some are bagging on Ruffin for throwing the ball in the air instead of holding and getting fouled or throwing to another Wiz.
To me his much larger gaff is standing and slacking while the ball he threw is in the air.
He could have doubleteamed shooter Morris Peterson and made the shot attempt near impossible, with each guarding one side.

Is Morris Peterson left handed or did he just hork it that way as opportunity presented?
Update, Morris is lefthanded.  So the Wiz defender guarding Morris should have taken out his left hand.  He played him like he was right handed.
He takes out left, Ruffin takes out Morris right and i doubt Morris even draws rim.
Guess they both thought the ball would be in the air long enough for clock to run out.
