A working-class hero is something to be
« on: January 30, 2007, 12:47:23 PM »
Hey y'all!!!

I was just thinking about which NBA player of note gets the most out the least innate physical abilities...immediately, Eduardo Najera (NAH-HAH-RAH, as Marv Albert says) of the Nuggets came to mind.  This guy is the classic 110% Kurt Rambis-type player...any others?

John Lennon subject line, BTW...the 'GOAT'.

Ronnie Turiaf.  Whether he is playing 20 minutes or 2 minutes he comes to play and is happy to do so.  He enjoys to work and enjoys coming to work.  Although I wouldnt say he doesn't have much athletic ability.  I think he has a little bit.  Just not as much as alot of the players in the league.

Also, Mutumbo has to be mentioned as a hard working guy.  He comes to report for work everyday and does his job.  He is old so his physical abilties have dropped off  (ok his height is still there) but he still gets the job done.  Rebounding and blocking shots is not exactly what most players want to do but he takes the tough job.  This doesn't even take into mind what he is doing back in Africa with the money he makes here.  He is just an all around quality, hard working guy.

I would say most successful teams have at least one of these guys.

Spurs: Oberto
Mavs: Dampier
Rockets: Battier
Suns: Thomas
Heat: Haslem
Jazz: Boozer

No he said players without innate skills.  As much as you claim to be "objective" I should have expected this reply.

Please show me where I said that I was objective -- I never claimed that -- I said that I TRY to be objective -- I just don't try very hard!   ::)

Speaking of Matt...

Jerry Sloan would be the definition of a working-class hero in the form of a NBA coach.  As would Avery Johnson.

hey y'all!!!

Another classic 'gets the most from the least' is Eric Snow...just an overall high-effort player on both ends of the floor.
