Over the Hedge

Not really feeling this one, waiting for Cars by Pixar instead.

However, if anyone has a take on 'Hedge, please post.

Nice beginning, great middle, very good thru 3/4ths and all setup for potential great ending.

It all fizzed from there IMO.

Sorry to hear about Cars sf101, i was looking forward to it.  Altho the trailers did seem cheesy.

I thought it was, for the most part, funny.  Lots of elements were convenient to drive what really is a sub-standard plot to begin with.  The animation wasn't eye-popping but it was well-done.  I liked Steve Carrell's character and when they gave him the power drink, that entire scene was priceless.

Over the hedge was way better than Cars.  The best part of the movie was when the Squirrel went into hyperdrive.  Not on par with Toy Story, Shrek or Finding Nemo but definately better than Cars, Robots and Shark Tale.

Aha so you two along w offspring did see it.

Okay.  Skandery i thought the basic plot did have enough.  In fact I can't stand when Hollywood overplots, esp on climaxs.  More below.

I thought the setup was great, with RJ (Bruce Willis) snitching the bears food and getting caught because of greedily wanting the potatoe Crinkles.  Nick Nolte voiced the old grouchy bear dead on.  

Wanda Sykes feigning interest in the cat to divert attention was a good subplot.  I can't stand her when she is in her usual mouthy obnoxious mode, altho as a skunk she fit the bill.  Still the transformation to "cat" was funny.

Anywho moving forward to the start of the climax.  RJ is going to burn off with the hard earned food.  Obvious theme is RJ is choosing selfish individuality over team/family wellbeing and life.  Bear tells him how impressed he is with RJs schemery.  RJ has change of heart.  Great set up for climax IMO, great lesson to teach kids.  

Hijacking the truck by shoving the food wagon off the cliff onto the Exterminator Truck was very uncreative IMO.  Along with all the bang/smash/crash destructive theme that so many cartoons resort to.  Just think they could have come up with a more creative way for RJ to free the captured critters away from Exterminator Guy.  Instead more bang/crash/bang.  Even as a kid i never got off on the endless destructive gags/disorder scenes on cartoons.

We did get a kick out of the ducks(?) or possums steering the van by walking on the steering wheel.

Agree the Squirell in hyperdrive after drinking the supercaffine drink was a howl, very well done.  Esp outrunning the layser beams. :rofl:  Even Kobe couldn't do that.  Maybe not even Manu now after this past Gm 7 ending.

Dude, you're an old fart.

Those were porcupine!!!  Remember when one of them turned on the TV and had his quils blown off by the THX thing!  That was funny.  You know, you're right about it being a great movie up till the climax.  While the porqy's sterring the car was funny, the rest was too bang/crash like you said.
