First off, I've NEVER been a fan of Phil Garner. I'd say the Astros should fire him, but then again, I always wondered why they hired him in the first place.
He's extremely cocky, immature and displays little, if any, admirable leadership qualities. When he threw that chair after Blum's homer last night, my immediate thought was, "Jeez Phil, way to show your team you have confidence in them. Why don't you just act like you've already lost the game!? GOOD JOB!"
Tom Verducci, one of the best baseball writers around, bashes Garner further in this article:

Amen. Concur.
To the article I will add IMO the most glaring Garnerism in Gm 3 bottom 9 tied 5-5.
With one out and needing only a run to win:
Burke walked.
Burke safe at second on throwing error by pitcher O Hernandez.
Burke stole third. a.
Think its time to try a squeeze with very good bunting Biggio at plate? Biggio walked.
b. Think it's time to try a squeeze with good bunting Taveras and very fast Taveras, thus low chance of double play.
c. forget the double play chance, Chicago is conceding 2nd base. For the love of Pete send Biggio to 2nd base. Now even if you miss the sqeeze Biggs ends up at third with Bergman up.
W Taveras struck out swinging. 2 out
Bergman walked.
Endsberg Ks.
Part of a sting of 18 straight innings without an Astos run. Sorry that is not Chisox pitching.
