Given Ted's team, I know who my first pick would be: Jason Kidd. It's a little bit of a risk, but essentially, with Kidd, Marion, and James, you've got three players who put up a wide variety of numbers across the board. That leaves you free to pursue a lot of different directions later in the draft.
Then again, I say that because I believe that guard play wins this league. If you can take assists, steals, 3ptrs., 3pt%, and FT% - guard categories, all you need is one more category. With Kidd, Marion, and James, taking rebounds could be that category, and you're not far out of the race in scoring.
However, Kidd is an older player, and in a keeper league, that can hurt.
And also, the one category I (personally) always seem to REALLY want to win, and consequently gear my teams up to do well in that category, is ASSISTS.
The problem Ted is facing though is that there are limited big men available later on, and after grabbing Kidd, he needs at least one or two more solid big men. There are tons of 1's, 2's, and 3's out there who are solid players - but not that many 4's and 5's. All the best 4's and 5's have been kept.
That said, though, there are a few gems in the rough out there at the big positions. If a few of them come through....
I like Ted's position.
Also - Derek - on your keeper list, Paul Pierce has now exhausted his eligibility. He was kept last year. That's 15 of the 24 kept players that will be in the draft next year. So we're already over half-way to the point we'd expect. At steady-state, there'll be an average of 8 top-level players in the draft every year.
