IMAP - Maildir - Courier
« on: May 11, 2005, 12:48:05 PM »
We have a fairly technical crowd around here, so I figured I'd ask you if anyone had any experience with this.

Alright, so my servers are currently running exim (mailserver), with UW IMAP handling the IMAP portion of it.   Unfortunately, UW IMAP defaultly supports the mbox file format, which doesn't allow subfolders to be created under mailboxes.  So when I use IMAP for my e-mail (preferable since I check my e-mail from many locations and many clients), I can only create one level of folders to store my e-mails.

Changing to the Maildir file format would fix this problem.  However, as far as I can tell in order to do that I'd have to switch my IMAP to Courier.  Does anyone know of a workaround to configure UW to support Maildir?

Depends on the crowd.  That was an entirely unix/linux based question.

We run Novell everything..they just decided 2 weeks ago  to scrap all our Netware servers and all the client-side Novell software for all MS based products.  So that means many many weekend work days and long nights getting everything switched.

Novell?  You guys are still on Novell?  Jeeze.

Active Directory servers are a big improvement for administration and centralization.

Once you get it set up, you'll like it better.

Novell still has its usefulness.  Especially if you have mac machines as well as pc's.

Guess who MS based Active Directory off of tho?  Let Novell do all the leg work and then bit the idea and added to it.  I guess thats the story of Microsoft's life.

All the top dogs in our IT dept are saying that the Microsoft servers may be more efficient for some things we are using (like for our tape backups, SANs, etc) but go up and down alot more than our Novell servers do.

That is Microsoft- steal the other guys idea and make it better, integrate it into your product and then bury the competition.  It's the Japanese way!
