What teams will and won't do

Supposedly on your team the non tagged Franchise player (or whatever you call it) makes your player tough to sign by other teams because it would take "two #1s" to get him.

I'm talking about Drew Brees.  1st off glad he is still a Charger.  Were it not for Shotenheimer reverting to Martyball late in the playoff game vs Jets, Brees year would include a playoff win.

At any rate, Brees had a great year.  But he could have been had by any team by giving up two #1s, and paying the same offer (9 mil per year) the Chargers gave him.

Now zig and other NFL watchers, given how hard teams try to find a good QB, i don't see where giving up two 1s is such a great burden to pay for an established good QB.  Albeit Brees has only had one good year.  But hes only 27.  Given how long franchises will go without a good QB, given how many high draft QBs are busts, it seems to me two #1s would be just as good a risk (better?) then forking out megabucks for high draft pick QBs OR ancient vets that end up bombing.  Vinny T, etc.

Biggest current example, look what the Arizona Cardinals just did.   Forked out  4 million a year for Curt Warner.  Why not just pay 9 mil a year and two draft picks and get Drew Brees?

Ditto established star running back who is young.  You're telling be all the Colts would get in a trade is a 2nd round or worse draft pick for Edgerrin James?  Thats whack.
