U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said today that Iran must live up to its international obligations to halt its nuclear program or the next steps are in the offing. "And I think everybody understands what the 'next steps' mean," Rice told reporters after a meeting with NATO foreign ministers and European Union officials. In his state of the union address, President Bush singled out Iran as "the world's primary state sponsor of terror -- pursuing nuclear weapons."

You're not really surprised at this are you?  Iran is surrounded by our troops in Afghanistan and Iraq.  Iran really does have WMD and a development program.

Do you really want the Iranians to be able to lob Nukes over here?  Do you want them to even have that chance?  

The Soviets don't want Iran to become a nuclear power, and neither do the Chinese.

Soon as Iraq stabilitzes watch what happens.

iran cant lob nukes over to us, they dont have the long range technology, but letting the old gaurd die off was a viable option.  the youth in Iran is very prowestern and is often supressed by the older generation to be forced into the traditional roles there.  the fact is the more influence we have there the more chance of real social change there.  it is close to happenning, i dont know if war with them is right right at this moment...

Their missles can't reach us yet, but they do have missiles with a range to reach Europe, Israel and India.

They have engaged in trade with N. Korea, who may have missiles with sufficient range.

While what you say about Iran may be true,  the US may not be willing to wait.  

War isn't about right or wrong, it's about money men making more money, exploiting situations.  While the US has lost lots of money, material and men in the war on Iraq, the money people have profited enourmously from this action.  Their already licking their chops in anticipation of getting their hands on Iranian oil reserves.

The money men don't always have such splended control over their puppet governments as they do now with Bush and Blair.  They were forced out of Iraq by the mullahs 25 years ago.  If they can get back in peacefully, they will, but chances are the current leaders in Iran will be intracteable, and stay that way for some time to come.  

The US will never have as many troops and support personal in place as they do now.  

The mullahs are building heavy water plants and have a full-scale nuclear program under way.  Considering how much oil they have, they don't need nukes for their energy needs.  The world powers will not tolerate Iran becoming a Nuclear power.

interesting turn of events..now N korea admits to having a nuke arsenal and is even saying they will increase it.....looks like the rats are starting to pour out.

N. Korea is a problem, because they have nothing anyone wants.  No natural resources to think of, a pretty barren place from what I understand.

Everyone else in Asia has passed them by.  No one would even care about N. Korea excpet for the noise they make.

They're too much trouble to deal with- unless they make themselves more of a problem.

Between China, Russia and the US, they could be overrun in days.  Japan and S. Korea would like to not have missles lobbed at them in the process, so prior to any serious invasion, the US will have to put anti misile batteries in place.

Remember, there's no profit from this, except for the munitions manufacturers.  It doesn't hold interest as the middle east does.

WTF?  What decade are you living in?  It would be a walk in the park compared to Iraq.  They are not as crazy as the middle east guys and they haven't had the need to develop the terrorist and/or guerilla tactacts either.

If it wasnt' for the Chineese, who as Ricko pointed out aren't on the N. Korean side of this anymore, the UN would have rolled over N. Korea in a week back in the day.

WoW is right. NK is the most backward place on this earth. War with North Korea would be quick, but ultra mega bloody on the North Korean side. They have a million men on the border, but they're all still using old Kalishnikovs. The NK military is quite primitive, even when compared to the Iraqis. It would be a massive slaughter because they don't really have much of an air force to defend against bombing. It would be ugly, and very sad.

North Korea is really hurting. The people there are as poor as any in the world. Even minor problems with the rice crop lead to massive, widespread famine. The country hangs on the military, and if it were destroyed, Korea would unify in a New York minute.

I should say that NK is different from the Iraqis in that they actually DO have a navy and an air force. But they are not too formidable.

The UN forces under Macarthur landed in Inchon and had removed the North Koreans from the south and pushed almost all the way to Pyongyang in a matter of days. The Chinese did the heavy lifting for the Communists in that war.
