jn,

I'm too tired to scroll and search so....

Any chance you can post the movies you have liked.
Kind of like a scaled down list resulting in your "can't miss" shows.
Realizing we all see them differently.

A for example would be Shawshank R.  I am by no means limiting to drama, thats just a "for example" of a goodie.

Anyone else invited to join but try to keep it those which most all would find excellent or at least turn the set off saying "wow, that was interesting."

Another example is Shrek and Nemo.  I cant see how any could say those suck.  They might not think they are the best but......

Shawshank Redemption is a top three for me.

I also loved The Unforgiven. "Deserve's got nuthin' to do with it."

Most recent addition to my top five list: Kill Bill. For the most part, I avoid the really violent and/or raunchy R's, but this one was just too intriguing. This is the only Tarantino film I've seen, and even though most of the people I know think the film was rubbish, I thought (for some reason) it was brilliant. One of the most strange and funny films I've seen. The fight seen with the Crazy 88's had me rolling (and it was shot very well). Is something wrong with me?

"Those of you who still have your lives, take them with you. But leave the limbs you have lost, for they belong to me now."

That's just good stuff!

Saw a movie called Roger Dodger, thought that would be a great FIRST DATE movie.  It's about a kid who goes to the big city, and his Bachelor Uncle teaches him how to pick up women. Had some funny moments. Had some great convo with the wife after that one.

This isn't part of the topic either, but I think SIX FEET UNDER is great show.

I'm actually pretty lousy at lists.  I always forget something obvious or make it waaaay too long.   :D

I know you've seen some of ones I would list, like LOTR, but offhand:

Dr. Strangelove:  Almost anything by Stanley Kubrick is must see, (Full Metal Jacket, The Shining, Clockwork Orange) but this is probably my favorite.

Spinal Tap:  A PERFECT spoof of the world of Rock and Roll.

The Godfather, 1 and 2.

Since I'm wearing my Holy Grail T-Shirt today I'll have to include that.

Marathon Man: Dustin Hoffman is in his prime and Laurence Olivier is incredibly creepy.

No Ted, there's nothing wrong with you.  Kill Bill was great especially if you already have a taste for Hong Kong chop sockey films.  Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is a great film because it makes those films more accessible for Americans plus throws in a smart message about aging love and responsibility vs youth and impulsive lust.

P.S.  You must see the film Factotum when it comes out so you can see the block I live on.  It stars Matt Dillon, Marissa Tomei and Lilli Taylor in an adaptation of a novel by Charles Bukowski.  They filmed a scend at a hydraulics a half block from my place.

Anyone else hooked on "The Shield"?

Last year had a ton of good movies, for a change, but "Master and Commander,
TFSOTW" had us go out and buy it - and the books it was based on.

"LA Confidential"

The recut version of "The Abyss"

"Tombstone" (For Powers Booth's portrayal of Curly Bill Brocious alone, but they had a great cast in that movie, and I still love factual westerns). Another good western was Kevin Costner's "Open Range", and "The Unforgiven", which Ted has already mentioned.

"Jaws" was great, and being a master diver, I truly love underwater adventure stories in general, though few measure up. "The Deep", with Nick Nolte, Jacqueline Bisset     , Robert Shaw, and Louis Gossett Jr. is one of them.

"The Godfather" movies, of course, but "Goodfellas" also, and "Donnie Brasco".

Happen to be a big Johnnie Depp fan, and I liked "Chocolate" as well as "Pirates of the Carribean", for just two examples.

Any mystery genre movie about gangsters that takes place underwater, with a western theme, and with good food will always get my attention.

Absolutely love it.  In fact, I've liked the last 2 seasons of "The Shield" more than the last 2 seasons of "Sopranos".

To add to the gangster list, "Reservoir Dogs" and "Carlito's Way" (think Scarface done right).

For action that's recent and hasn't been mentioned here, "The Rock" and "Training Day".  And "Sixth Sense" was one of the best movies I've seen in a long time, it's a shame that came out before Unbreakable, Signs and The Village though.  I don't think any of those movies were as bad as some made them out to be, but they were constantly compared to Sixth Sense, which they can't compare to.

For me a really good movie is one where I tune in halfway through and still sit through the rest:
Snatch (Best one-liners ever!)
Last of the Mohicans
Unforgiven
The God Father I/II
Braveheart
Oceans 11
Gangs of New York (new version)
Pulp Fiction
The Matrix
Hunt for Red October
Old School
Animal House
Midnight Express
Blade

Movies I really enjoyed at the theater:
Return of the Jedi
Shrek I/II
Finding Nemo
LOTR I/II/III
Sixth Sense
Independance Day
Titanic (nothing like watching thousands of poor immigrants die)
Jurasic Park
SpiderMan I/II
Jacobs Ladder

I know if forgot some.
"History shouldn't be a mystery"
"Our story is real history"
"Not his story"

"My people's culture was strong, it was pure"
"And if not for that white greed"
"It would've endured"

"Laker hate causes blindness"
