General Discussion / easy home financing

The Texas construction industry has taken a big hit in recent years, but 2013 is showing some promise. According to a survey conducted by the Associated General Contractors of America, investment in construction rose approximately 7% in 2012, mostly encouraged by the private sector. Some construction firms (approximately 20%) across the United States are planning to add staff to their businesses throughout 2013.

The Civ series is my favorite. I got Civ IV for Christmas last year (was still playing I & II) and it makes the first 2 seem like they were made for adolescents. One major addition is the promotion of your units upon gaining experience points...and the fact that there are usually 3-4 different types of promotion at each level. Nice crossover addition from D&D games.

Yeah Lurker, Civ 4 has been just ridiculously awesome.  I was on it hardcore for about two months earlier this year.  I'm a huge fan of all the three previous civilization games but this fourth one really has blown all of them out of the water.  How about the introduction of historical people and religion?  When your talking turn-based empire builder, few people do it as good ole' Sid Meier.  Which civilization (and leader) do you like to play, Lurker?

You also said that you had Warcraft but it lost out to Civ.  Which one of the Warcrafts if I may ask?
Skander, I usually just let it pick randomly.  Especially with Civ IV and then modify my game choices to fit the strengths of that nationality.  Although I tend to have the most fun with the aggressive (German, Japanese, Mongols) civs.  What are your favorites?  Have you had much success with ones that have financial or cultural traits as their strengths?

Warcraft actually belonged to my son and I "inherited" it (as well as Age of Empires I) when he went off to college.  It was the first one but I had played Civ so much that I found myself going back to it over & over again.

Has anyone from this group been playing Civ 5?  Changes seem to have been very polarizing.  Curious what everyones reaction is.

Think about the outpouring of admiration, sadness and gratitude when Buss died.  Now imagine what happens when Sterling dies.  I imagine a lot of Angelenos will start taking grave dancing lessons.

I will say this for the current Clippers.  I went to see them play the Wolves a month back and they are hot enough to have some bandwagon fans here.  Not many but they were there.  There were a few guys in my section calmly cheering for them and one leather pant wearing drunk skank right next to me shrieking for them.

Plus just think about what a pop culture punchline the Clippers have been over the years.   I think it was summed up nicely in a Simpsons episode where the Marge and Homer end up with a tennis court.  They always lose, leading to one of the cops referring to them as "the LA Clippers of backyard tennis."

Do Yankee fans root for the Mets?
Do Cubs fans root for the White Sox?
Do Alabama fans root for Auburn?
Do Beaver fans root for the Ducks?
Do Trojan fans root for the Bruins?
Did Russians root for Americans?
Do Republicans root for Democrats?

Touche' Rolando, until the Clips win SEVERAL championships or at least start making SERIOUS waves in the playoffs it is still the Lakeshow all the way, one good season does not unseat the Kings of SoCal!

Even if they did prove to more than a 1 or 2 season flash in the pan (and given Sterling's history that seems unlikely) it will still be Lakertown, although with fickle Angelenos...

NBA Discussion / LAL vs. LAC

Hey, y'all!
As as Tinseltown resident, many of the talk-shows that are broadcast nationwide are familiar to me since they emanate from here. One of the favorite topics of discussion on these shows is whether LA is the Clippers' or Lakers' town. To me, this is a laughable non-issue...'Lob City' ain't won nuttin' yet!

Hey, now! :)

As the self-proclaimed resident Lakers fan on this board (sorry Dan - lol), I feel qualified to pronounce this judgement. The LAL are the most successful NBA franchise in modern history, without question. But is this all attributable to Jerry Buss? Methinks not! Jack Kent Cooke, Bill Sharman, Jerry West, Pat Riley, Mitch Kupchak...all were instrumental to the decades-long dominance that has been the signpost of the LAL. The reverence that has been given to Buss is somewhat much, IMHO...it's not like he cured cancer, IMHO!

Hey Laker FanDan! :)

Before pontificating on 'King James', let me tell you how cool it is to hook up with you after all of these years! As James Brown exclaimed, "I FEEEEEEEL GOOD!":D

I am watching the Heat vs. Wolves now, so I can't comment yet - hang on, I'm coming!
