NBA Discussion / Knicks targeting Ilgauskas!! Crawford close.
« on: July 14, 2004, 04:20:17 PM »
dbodner, the knickk frontcourt would be Big Z Tim Thomas at SF and MICHAEL SWEETNEY at PF.

Joe V, Sweetney is the reason NY is willing to give up Kurt Thomas. In fact there's talk that even if Kurt stays it won't be long before Sweetney takes his job. For anyone that hasn't seen him play that much, let me tell you he's going to be a VERY GOOD player. He will be a rebounding machine. He didn't play until late last season and then really got some nice minutes in the playoffs. He always impressed me when he was on the floor. He reminds me a little of Ben Wallace rebound wise(obviously not as good YET). It seems he just knows where the ball is going to come off the rim. Keep an eye on this kid, if he starts this year and it looks like he will, he will average a minimum of 10 boards a game.

NBA Discussion / Knicks targeting Ilgauskas!! Crawford close.

The NY Daily News is reporting the the Cavs called the Knicks to discuss a potential Kurt Thomas/Ilgauskas deal.  Now if this was coming from the Post, I'd laugh at it but, the Daily News is usually pretty accurate. The Knicks will have to throw in either Nazr Mohammed or Mutombo. If I'm Cleveland it better be Mohammed who really played well when he got a chance to start for NY. Nothing will go down with this deal until Cleveland is finished with the Boozer situation. In the unlikely event Cleveland finds a way to match the offer Utah gave Boozer, this deal is dead. If and when they realize they cannot match the offer, this deal could get done. Another team going after Ilgauskas is Dallas who is offering Walker but, if I'm cleveland I want no part of Antoine Walker who will be a FA after the year in which you'd be risking losing Zeke for nothing if AW walks. Besides that, Kurt Thomas is a better fit since you want LB handling the ball most of the time and Walker wants to shoot 30 times a game. I think if I'm Cleveland and I can replace the PF I just lost with Kurt Thomas and get a fairly young Center in Mohammed, I'd do it. I see DAL getting Dampier instead. As far as the eventual Jamal Crawford deal it appears the only thing holding this up is what junk each team wants the other to take. If the Knicks are forced to take Jerome Williams, Chris Jeffries AND Eddie Robinson, they want the Bulls to take Moochie Norris instead of Frank Williams. The deal will break down like this:
Jeffries, Williams, Robinson and JC to NY with Moochie, Harrington, Shandon Anderson and Mutombo to Chicago. Harrington and Mutombo are FA after the year so the Bulls will save $8-10M after this year. The crazy thing about these 2 deals for NY is they'd still have their Mid level and Vet. Rumor is the Knicks will use the vet to sign Doleac. If the Knicks pull both trades, the top of the East gets even stronger.
Starting 5 of: Marbury, Houston, T.Thomas, Sweetney, Ilgauskas.
Bench: Frank Williams, Penny, Crawford, DeMarr Johnson, Vin Baker, JYD, E. Rob, Doleac, Ariza, Jeffries and whoever they sign with the mid-level.
Not Bad. I can't put them with Mia, Det, IND or NJ(If they keep KM) yet but, I'd give them a shot.

Would it surprise you with the money being THROWN around this year? I thought throwing all of this money out to marginal players was over with the luxury tax?

NBA Discussion / OK now where does Dampier go?
« on: July 11, 2004, 04:11:44 AM »
Now that Shaq is off the market, Dampier is the best big man available. Has anyone heard anything about who's interested in him or where he wants to go? Is there an under the cap team that wants him or is he going to have to go somewhere via sign and trade? I'd love to see the Knicks get him. I've heard NOTHING about him going anywhere here in NY.

NBA Discussion / A Shaq proposal from a Knick fan. Laker Fans?
« on: July 02, 2004, 01:16:03 PM »
Randy, I don't know how much you've seen of Frank Williams but, I truely believe he will be a better player than Speedy. Williams played great as the Knicks starter before the Marbury trade.
And JoMal, the Knicks would still have Marbury, Houston, Shandon Anderson , Moochie Norris, Mike Sweetney, Ariza(2nd round draft pick), Penny and possibly Vin Baker. Not to mention they'd still have their mid-level and veteran exceptions left.

NBA Discussion / A Shaq proposal from a Knick fan. Laker Fans?

This is no rumor and I've heard nothing new about Shaq coming to NY after the Stephen A. Smith sportscenter segment. Since it seems Dallas refuses to trade Dirk which kills any trade there and LA wants no part of trading Shaq to the hated Kings, Why not my Knicks? So here's my proposal. In a 3 team trade between LA, NY and GS:

NY Gets:
Shaq($28M), Evan Eschmeyer($4M) and Cliff Robinson($8M).
Taking on $40M in salary. Giving up $34M in salary plus $3M cash.

LA Gets:
Erik Dampier(sign and trade$8M), Tim Thomas($11M), Kurt Thomas($7M) and Frank Williams($2M)
Taking on $28M in salary. Giving up $28M in salary.

GS Gets:
Nazr Mohammed($5M), Dikembe Mutombo($5M), Othella Harrington($3M) and DeMarr Johnson(sign and trade $1M) $3M from NY.
Taking on $14M in salary plus $3M in cash from NY. Giving up $20M.

My reasoning for each team:
NY gets Shaq. No explanation needed. LA gets 3 starters in Thomas x2 and Dampier plus a very good up and coming PG in Frank Williams. Not to mention Shaq is out of the conference. GS gets a nice young Center in Nazr who can get you 10 Points and 10 Boards a night which is better than losing Dampier for nothing which they probably will since this trade most likely won't happen. Also GS rids themselves of the overpaid Eschmeyer and Cliff who are signed through '06 while taking on Johnson, Othella and Mutombo who can all be let go after this upcoming season.

Most likely not going to happen but, I thought it was worth posting. What do you think?
