really minor news...but we are talking to the rockets about getting Steve Novak for future considerations...they have too many players..we dont have enough..we can fit his salary.....he can shoot..seems like a decent fit based on that alone.

Kapono will expire in the same year and Reggie Evans and makes slightly more money. At this point, I don't think cap room is an issue anymore. To paraphrase someone from realgm, worrying about cap room is the job of lower tier teams. We're done with that
We need to be thinking about filling needs and holes in trades, drafts and Free Agency now, and I think Kapono would do just fine.

I think the Raptors desperately need to shore up their frontline with rebounding and toughness. What with JO being incredibly injury prone, Bargnani being possibly the worst rebounding 7 footer in the NBA and them trading away Nesterovic, I can see them being tempted into Kapono for Evans swap--Bosh can't do it all, and nobody on the team strikes me as a good rebounder at his position other than him. If I were Ed Stefanski, I would propose a trade after a Sixers--Raptors game (where we would be guaranteed to murder them on the boards): Kapono for Evans. I can easily see them tempted to go for something like that. We could even throw in the Minnesota 2nd rounder to sweeten the pot.

We also made a brilliant move this offseason in drafting the young PF that will be (hopefully) ready to take the reigns when Brand starts to decline.

Davis made the best move possible for him.
-The Warriors weren't willing to give him a long term contract, he gets financial security in LA
-Neither the Ws or the Clippers were going anywhere anyway, with or without Brand
-Davis gets to play in his hometown

Wouldn't mind a small ball line up of Brand/Speights or Smith/Young/Iguodala/Lou Williams either. That line-up is probably the best possible spacing on the court we could have at any one time.

Teams can offer players minimum salary contracts even if they are over the cap.  Contracts can be up to two years in length.  For two year contracts, the second season salary is the minimum salary for that season.  The contract may not contain a signing bonus.  This exception also allows minimum salary players to be acquired via trade.  There is no limit to the number of players that can be signed or acquired using this exception.

I can't say for sure, but I believe this wonderful exception allowed us to sign Calvin Booth last year.

I know some hate digging through realgm at this time, especially through the 80+ page monster, but sf76 just posted another statement on it.

Take it for what it's worth:

I asked my buddy about the Brevin Knight, DeAndre Jordan thing and he said there was zero truth to that. They obviously arent trying to add cap money right now.
