Couldn't the same criticism be leveled against the franchise PF we just committed $80 million to?
Not quite. Brand's a stud PF, but he's never been viewed as on the same individual "superstar" level as McGrady. Add to that the fact a Brand-led team has actually won a playoff series, plus McGrady's more varied injury history, and it's a little different.

Or, for that matter, Iguodala?  Overachieving the last 1.5 years is nice, but Iguodala's never been the lead guy on a winning team (percentage wise).
McGrady's been viewed as a franchise player for about seven seasons now. Iguodala's single season as "the man" isn't a large enough sample size to make such a comparison IMO. I think everyone agrees he's a support player to a larger cornerstone.

That's the problem with McGrady. He's a flash in the pan. There's no sustained success, just big teases.

A certain poster on the other board is attributing this rumor to sf1976, for what it's worth.

I think Williams is a potential starter, so I'd probably do a deal including Smith. But NJ's flush with big men now(Lopez, Boone, Williams, Yi, Anderson) and who knows what's going on with Krstic. Not sure Smith would be an option for them.  I'd trade a future first.

They're looking to get rid of Tinsley, who I wouldn't consider taking on at all, but they also have a few other PGs, plus some other pieces. Any thoughts what they would give up for Reggie?

The C.J. Miles issue out in Utah bares watching, IMO. An interesting prospect given his size and age, and he was pretty on from beyond the arc when given time last season. Actually, Utah's a team I'd watch for some movement. They've got a few players in their backcourt worth looking at to fill out the roster.

I would agree that Miller's expiring deal alone would be enticing. Problem is, what would you want and what would they be willing to give up. One of those young PGs would have to be included, IMO. My preference is Kopponen, but you'd still need a vet to plug into the starting lineup. Would you take back Pryzbilla if it netted you Kopponen and a future 1st?

I wonder if Smith/Green could somehow entice Houston to give Novak/Head.

I didn't know NBA teams were offering such services to their players.

According to Ric Bucher on SportsCenter....

.... the Clippers are now a playoff team while the Nuggets are blowing up their team and getting ready to rebuild. For conversations sake, if the Nuggets were to trade Iverson, what teams would he be a fit with??

Dallas and Cleveland come to mind.

I have to think Memphis could get more than Jason Smith.  I would be shocked if that's all he went for.

As much as I like Crittenton, there may be the temptation to overvalue him a tad based on that. Smith's a skilled big man, picked not long after Crittenton. Crit's still really a project, albeit one with a ton of potential. The additional second rounder makes it an even swap for me.

If we get Novak from Houston (6'10" shooter), a Smith + second rounder for Crit deal would make tons of sense for both teams.

I'd like a Crittenton trade even if Novak isn't acquired. He doesn't make Smith expendable as much as he fills a spot at the end of the bench for the occasional late-game three point attempt.

(good luck trading Iggy after 2-3 years at a salary of $15 mil per year).

When you're talking about significantly investing in players at Iguodala's level or above, I don't think a major consideration would be whether or not you'd be able to trade him in two years.

It's much ado about nothing because there aren't any actual quotes from Iguodala. It's all inferred by the writer.

Novak's a specialist. Jason Smith is by far the better player. Better rebounder, better offensive skill set, and while not a good overall defender, he'll at least block some shots. The best thing about Novak is that he can come in cold and be on, so he wouldn't need minutes to get into rhythm.

I noticed Dahntay Jones' write-up from that game for Denver was favorable. I've always been interested in this guy for some reason. Solid role player on the Memphis playoff teams, good size on the wing, an excellent defender. Not much of an offensive game, but I'd think you could do worse for a team that could use good perimeter defenders.
