Considering our low number of players (we have 10 total when we sign both Igoudala and Williams), I doubt we will do a 2-for-1 player swap right now.  We just don't have the depth, numbers-wise.

Apparently Chad Ford thinks we're already the 3rd best team in the Eastern Conference.

:o  But, but... we don't have anyone who can make an outside shot.  ;D

As Chris Sheridan said on ESPN today, every year there this a player who gets a huge contract he doesn't deserve. Josh Smith appears to be the most likely candidate to be that guy this year. Then again, Bogut's really feels like it's a terrible one.

The Bogut deal was ridiculous.... and going after Kwame?  Someone may give him an MLE... which based on Evans contract, is still too much (at least Evans works hard).  I'm glad we have Stefanski.

Roger Mason reportedly signed a 2 year deal with the Spurs

Spurs is a great spot for Mason.

Rush has to be one of the names considered. Actually, here's what I'm thinking... I think Ed will use the veteran's minimum to bring Kevin Ollie back and then trade either Reggie Evans or Jason Smith to get a shooter with Evans being the preferred player being sent out. We do have a very versatile lineup with Iguodala having the ability to cover the 2 and 3, Young being able to cover the 3 and 4, and Brand able to cover the 4 and 5.

The depth chart may look bare without Evans or Smith in it, but we have to keep in mind that Sam and Elton are going to cover about 71 of the possible 96 minutes at the 4 and 5 spots. When you consider that Thad will probably eat up about 6 minutes or so at the 4, that leaves us with just under 20 minutes left to cover between those 2 spots. I'm fairly certain either Smith or Evans can handle that amount of minutes alone without sharing them. Also, he may not be much at the start, but I expect Speights to get somewhere between 5-10minutes by the end of the season.

I'm all for bringing Ollie back.  LW needs the mentoring on his PG skills.  We need a backup C, and Smith is the only one who fits the bill.  I'm not ready to give up on him yet.

About the needed shooter.  Even with Philly now being a desirable location, I doubt we will pick up a major contributor at the minimum.  I would think a trade is almost a necessity.

Still, I'd rather go forward with the current team for the first 1/2 season than risk dealing away any of its core other than maybe Evans.  Moving Smith for a smaller shooter seems a bit shortsighted and circular reasoning, since I think Smith is close to being a good shooter who can play a key reserve role as back-up PF/C.

I want to see what kind of jumper Iguodala, Lou, Thad and Smith have before a move is made.  All of them are young and dedicated enough to possibly show dramatic improvement- it's just up in the are how fast that improvement will happen.  I'm counting on Mark Price to be a miracle worker...

On the positive side, they all will be getting a lot of easy looks, which is a great way for an improving shooter to gain confidence.

I completely agree.  Let the Celtics get another year older, let the Lakers attempt to buy a championship (and manage a whole bunch of egos) and let us develop our outside shooting from within, bringing in someone cheap.  I'm really ready to let this pot simmer for awhile and see what we have.

I'm sure some team offers him the MLE... although I would love to see him sign about the same contact that Turiaf received (but I don't see that happening).  I can definitely see him taking only a 3 or 4 year deal, to get more money later (especially so that he can get what we've allocated to WG).

It was a rumor on WIP this morning I believe...i'm willing to bet they made it up

Probably.

Too bad it's not real though.  In looking at the numbers, it wouldn't be a bad trade: Carroll's contract is setup to get cheaper as it goes, so it'd free up some additional cap room next year for us as well.  We're already not going to be in the 2010 free agent race, so...

I just hope we don't try and do too much too fast.  I'll admit that I like Evans off the bench... he's a big reason why we were so effective in rebounding (and I would love for Speights to learn from him for a year).

If it's a good trade, then do it.  However, if it's only so-so, we'll be in a better shape to contend NEXT year (2009-10) because (a) we'll have the MLE, (b) we'll have next years' draft pick, (c) all of our young guys will have had a year to mature.

The only reason to continue to be aggressive is if Miller won't resign.  24 Hours ago, I thought that was definite.  Now... who knows.

Nice. Anymore mention of the Evans/Carroll thing on 610 or 950?

Has there been mention of that?  If so, please elaborate.

On the other board, there's talk of trading Evans for Carroll.  Carroll is in year 2 of a 6/$27 deal... so it adds two additional years of contract (when compared to Evans).

I think a lot of Iggy's popular disfavor, aside from the Philadelphia hobby of chasing off good players, is an Iverson hang-over...

Interesting.  I think it's more related to rejecting the 5/$57 deal last off-season.  I never heard anything but compliments about him until then.

Dave (Orlando): Is Redick done in Orlando?

David Thorpe: (12:18 PM ET ) Yes.

Can't he shoot?

He could in college... but I have questions as to whether he can get a shot off in the pros.  And he makes Korver's defense look good.

I wanted to add how impressive the two-year transition that has taken place.  Think about where we were and what has taken place...while letting Igoudala and Williams become better basketball players and drafting Young and Speights with our picks.

When you think about how badly we got fleeced in the Barkley trade... this is something.

I don't think ed's hands are 'tied' by Iguodala and Williams.  The first immediate priority was Brand or Smith, and now move on to the next step and decide what to do....it's a process, one thing after another and I think now he moves on to iguodala and williams (williams i think gets done faster).

You're right... 'tied' is probably too strong.  And Green could be traded for an equally bad (or worse) contract.  I also think Lou's contract gets done faster (hopefully in the Willie Green range for 3-4 years... I'm hoping no team gets silly and throws an MLE at him).

Obtaining shawn marion and forcing louis williams to elevate his game to here to fore plateaus unknown ain't tinkering, tinkering is trading willie green for a guy off the bench who shoots the 3 better than the rest of the team :)

Like I said yesterday, when the sixers get brand, the next step is what's next, and that's how i feel the GM should be thinking as well...enjoy the moment, moments over, do the next thing, cause this team ain't done yet.

I agree... but Ed's hands are tied until we sign Igoudala and Williams... which is what he should be concentrating on (and noting to Iggy how Brand took roughly 10% less to sign with Philly instead of Golden State).

Do you think we traded Carney away because there was a market for Green?  I guarantee you that if Minnesota was willing to take the UTH 1st + Green (without sending us a 2nd round back) that we would have gladly done that instead.  Ed's a good GM, but he's not a miracle worker.  We're stuck with Green unless he's part of a Miller deal.

They won't have to depend on it as much now, but they'll still be up-tempo.  We'll be better defensively with Brand/Young/Iggy.

Brand can play up-tempo.  Iggy, Young and LW can still hit the break, so can Green.  We'll miss Carney a bit, but Brand is such a HU-U-UGE upgrade...

Second best news: GS got Magette, so they can't throw ridiculous $$$ at Igoudala.   ;D
