Cubs curse in effect?

What's a Yoyer?
-
What's a Yoyer?
In the Latino community it is a guy who plays pro baseball for the Los Angeles team.
-
Which Los Angeles team - the one that will lose to the phillies or the one that will lose to the red sox?
-
What's a lymphnoma?
And why must I be tortured by Craig Saeger jackets in TWO sports now?
-
Which Los Angeles team - the one that will lose to the phillies or the one that will lose to the red sox?
Philly educational system at it's finest.
The one that is playing the team I referenced in the very first post of this thread.
-
Gotcha.
I'm rooting for the Dodgers as well because I think the phils have a much better shot against them in the NLCS (and home field advantage) than against the Cubs.

I'd disagree. I think the Cubs curse keeps them from being able to beat anyone.
If the Dodgers do play the Phills I think it would be a great series.

I don't believe in goat curses (and i live with a red sox fan, she believes in curses) any more than I believe in the curse of william penn.

I just assumed since you believed in god....
(Just kidding, don't get too mad, I am adding a joke disclaimer just to be sure)
Let's go YOYERS!
-
Wait, when did I say I believed in God?:)

I guess I failed to see where you were apart of Jews for Atheism

There's another debate I don't like to have any more about how judaism is unique in that it is both religion and culture, but watching the phils bash cc sabathia like he's, well, not a good pitcher, has put me in too good a mood to even worry about it.

I understand that but you are complaining about religious holidays in another thread so I don't know if you can really play that card.
Where has W.O.W been? He must have drank himself into oblivion the first night the YOYERS won.

Well, it's not that simple, but who cares.
I'm getting my NLCS wish...probably...woo hoo

There's a baseball team in L.A.? WTF! When did this happen? I've been traveling doing system upgrades. I might be traveling Wed-Fri for the rest of the year.
Speaking of playing "cards" like a donkey.........has anyone been watching the WSOP this year?

Damn I hope you are not going out to the Eastcoast. Having to stay up until the middle of the night to watch Laker games is no fun. Especially when everyone happens to work twice as hard on the road as they do at their own office.
Lets go YOYERS!

I got one Leastcoast trip planned, "non-real-work" trip. Going to Tenn and Pen to visit a couple of vendors that are in the running to replace me. :( All my "work" trips this year will be in Cali, going as far north as Sactown and down south to SD.

Phillies in 7 BTW

There's nothing exciting going in in SoCal in November right? Any good games to see?

Lakers, Clippers, Soccer will be back by then as well (I believe), Los Angeles Kings....
Do you want music shows? Cuz there is a million...

What can a po Utah boy get Laker or Clips tickets for?
-
What can a po Utah boy get Laker or Clips tickets for?
Clips tickets - affordable - at higher elevations
Laker tickets - really not with investigating 'secondary' market tickets unless you don't mind shelling out 500 bucks or so
-

80 to 150 gets you very good Clippers tickets. Slightly over double for Lakers. You can check ticketmaster.com or stubhub.com. Also there is a "ticket exchange" on Clippers.com and Lakers.com that you can occasionaly find good deals on.
Maybe you can talk msc into taking you to a game.

I suggest using StubHub unless you can plan far in advance. I am sure a lot of the tickets will be hard to get as the team is back in contender mode unless it's nose bleeds.
150 at a Clippers game will get you in very good seats. You could get 8-10 rows back for that much at the Clipper game. I paid 150 for 15 rows back when the Lakers played the Jazz last year in Dec.
-
This year I hope I have the time and money to see the sixers at staples against the clippers - though I wonder if it'll be a harder ticket to get this year with the return of 'traitor' elton brand?

Brand was popular out here but I don't think that him coming back to town is that huge of a deal. Especially since he didn't play at all last year.
It's not like AI returning to Philly or MJ showing back up in Chicago.
-
I'll keep an eye out then - the clippers/sixers staples game is usually the one sixers game i don't get on tv all year due to stupid tv rules...and it's usually scheduled at an odd time (or i just remember the odd sunday 12 pm starts better than the others)

I've seen the Lakers/Sixers two times since Staples Center opened and I didn't have trouble getting tickets then. Though I think it would be cooler to see Brand drop 40 on his old team.
Btw..Seeing AI play live, 7 rows back, it amazing. Not sure how close you've got to see him play but you have a million times more respect then if you watch him on TV. I watched Shaq level him on a move towards the rim, he gets right back up, ball comes back in to him, goes past Shaq, and scores.
-
Problem is i don't want to see the sixers far back, i want close seats, close seats to ANY lakers game cost more than they really should...I mean how can I yell at Sam for his boneheaded moves if I'm not close enough...how can i ask Kobe if he had the same teachers i did in high school?

1. Who cares? The Cubs had a better record and got swept. This is the playoffs. Not the regular season. They could have finished 30 games higher then the Dodgers and that doesn't mean they automatically get the W.
2. See #1
3. The Angles were awesome on the road and could only muster up one win in the first round. Again, this is the playoffs.
4. Wash.....and uhhh how did a pitcher friendly park HELP the Dodgers in this spot? See number 8...the pitching friendly park helped the Dodgers hit more HRS?! Yet in #8 it's a negative against their pitching staff because it's a pitcher friendly park?
5. Retard philly logic here or a bad attempt at being funny
6. Great but did they dispatch the best team in the national league in 3 games? I think it's safe to say the end of the Dodgers season AND how badly the beat up the Cubs says a lot as well.
7. Is Ryan Howard really more feared then Manny Ramirez at the plate? Does he make pitchers real nervous when he touches the on deck circle? I am sure they are very much aware of Ryan Howard but Manny Ramirez is a much more high profile hitter and has been more consistent then Howard has in his career. There is a reason that Manny is going to be a hall of fame player.
8. Valid point though I feel it's a bit skewed to try to fluff up the numbers together.
9. I keep seeing 'incredible' pitchers park as if each number that goes on it's gets more and more impossible to hit in Dodger stadium at all. I guess since it's a little tougher to hit a HR in Dodger stadium then say Phillie's home base, that it means NO ONE can get any time of hits. HRs or nothing!!!
10. Of course they out hit the Dodgers because most of the Dodgers "hitters" have been out for injuries for a chunk of the season. Nomar who was swinging the bats last year was gone. Furcal was gone. Dodgers didn't have Manny towards the end. As the rest of the guys came back and got their groove in you could see what they did to the Cubs.
As this guy helps bend the Manny/Torre media spin out of control (even though it's not really a spin, they really are a better baseball team because of those two) I will keep pointing out the ultra bias homerism when you post his articles ;)

No, that's not what it means at all...

It's already out of control, and as for your second assertion...the numbers indicate that the dodgers weren't better than the phillies post manny, the phillies play in a tougher division and were better on the road than the dodgers...as for Joe Torre, he's the most over rated manager in baseball (though while in new york he wasn't even the most over rated member of the yankees, that was derek jeter).
If you want to talk about injuries, than Manny Ramirez isn't even the most important Dodger, Rafael Furcal is...

The Dodgers post-Manny were also not better then the Cubs.....up until they played one another in the playoffs. Now there is no doubt in anyone's mind who the better team really as when it was all said and done.
-
Can you guys take your gay discussion to a baseball board? How can anyone watch a sport that has a team with a queer name like the Phillies?
-

That's actually an incorrect statement. 3 games is less than 2% of the season.
Were the Giants better than the Patriots last year? Any reasoned mind would say no, they were just better on one day.
I understand that it's the playoffs, but the 'best' team doesn't always win, the rockies were NOT the best NL team last year, they just got on a role at the right time, and it's why very few if any reasoned people thought the rockies would come close to sniffing the playoffs this year (and look how right they were)
The dodgers were better than the cubs last week, that doesn't make em the better team, it makes em better in a small sample size at the right time.

In the playoffs, when you lose, you are not the better team. That is why it is the playoffs and that is why you are eliminated. The better team wins. It only takes being good on a few nights to win in the playoffs.
If the Cubs really were the better team they would have beat the Dodgers. Since you don't believe in their curse what else is it? Not only did they beat them but they beat them badly, 3 games in a row. If the Phillies beat the Dodgers then they are the better team. Until that point, they are not better than them. This is not the regular season and the regular season doesn't count once the playoffs start. I don't see the Cubs getting a re-do because they almost won 100 games. Ask the Angels if winning 100 games in the season means anything right now.

That is not correct. Playoff Football and Baseball/Basketball are totally different. Football playoffs are more similiar to College Basketball playoffs. One game can make all the difference in the world between champ and chump. NOT so in baseball and basketball. A 7 game series will typically show who the better team is, barring injuries of course. A "fluke" does NOT win 4 out of 7 games, a better team does. IMO a very simple concept.
I've heard there are one-game playoffs in baseball, so that might be the exception to the rule but you only get that scenario when two teams end up with the same record.
Geeze, do I really need to explain this?
-
Psst
Charlie Manuel has a better managerial winning percentage than Joe Torre
BTW - the divisional series is 3 of 5 - not 4 of 7 right?
