NBA Discussion / Inadvertant whistle
« on: February 26, 2004, 12:33:56 PM »
They may not strike fear into the Marketing Avenger but that doesn't mean other teams in the West are not thinking about how well the Lakers have played in the playoffs over the last 4 years.  3 titles and one 2nd round loss in 4 years does say something.  Whether you want to be in denial or not...or your hoop sense is superior to the coaching staff of other teams, they still are thinking about them.

As for fouling Shaq, do it!  You have a much better chance putting Shaq on the line then you do if you try to play straight up defense.  He nails 2 and you still have the ball.  He misses 1 and its still a one possesion game with the ball in your hands.

Its not often you say Congrads but I dont think I can fully enjoy it when the Lakers need a last second 3 point shot by Rush to win against the Nuggets.  They are not going ANYWHERE in the playoffs if they continue to play defense like that.  The Wolves and the Spurs are tightning up those screws on the defensive end for the playoffs and the Lakers are still F-ing around.  A W is a W but damn.....how many times you gonna let Melo burn you before you decide to guard him?

Big Props to Luke Walton for not only grabbing a steal to bring them within 2 but for the unselfish drive and kick for the game winner.  Rush got all the love after the game but it was Luke who set that up nicely.

Didn't get to catch the game.  I really LOVE to watch the Wolves this year.  Everytime I see them on I turn and will watch the whole game.  Not sure if the game was close for 48 minutes but the end score looks like the end of the game was great.

Good win by the Spurs.  These Wolves are no joke and will def be someone the Spurs might see in the first or second round.

I'm not hopping for another bad season.  Of course I am a Raiders fan.  However, I do like to watch idiot owners/upper management get screwed over when they make bad moves.  So I am torn.  I want my team to do well but I also like to see Al Davis look like a moron.  Just can't stand the guy.

As for the players spouting off.  They have equal control over how things are done when game time comes.  It really irked me to see those guys try to place alot of blame on the coach when the team and the coach should shoulder the blame 50/50.  I love how team sports turn into single problems when the loss column starts to inflate.  The team sucked as a whole, take the blame as a team.

The problem with demo's, IMO, is that they seem like a watered down version of the republicans right now.  They are trying to make similar moves while saying they are ready to bring change.  Well which one is it?  Why vote for someone who is trying to mimic someone else?  Why not just vote for the person they are trying to copy?  The Republicans will be laughing all the way to Novemeber as the demo's attack each other and clearly are doing all the dirty work for the Republicans.  If that Bin Ladin rumor is true they clearly have no chance.  Instead of fighting and making the whole party look bad they should get away from each others throats.  Regroup and get ready for 2008.

NBA Discussion / OT: Bin Laden surrounded????

Bin Laden 'surrounded'

February 22, 2004

A BRITISH Sunday newspaper is claiming Osama bin Laden has been found and is surrounded by US special forces in an area of land bordering north-west Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The Sunday Express, known for its sometimes colourful scoops, claims the al-Qaeda leader has been "sighted" for the first time since 2001 and is being monitored by satellite.

The paper claims he is in a mountainous area to the north of the Pakistani city of Quetta. The region is said to be peopled with bin Laden supporters and the terrorist leader is estimated to also have 50 of his fanatical bodyguards with him.

The claim is attributed to "a well-placed intelligence source" in Washington, who is quoted as saying: "He (bin Laden) is boxed in."

The paper says the hostile terrain makes an all-out conventional military assault impossible. The plan to capture him would depend on a "grab-him-and-go" style operation.

"US helicopters already sited on the Afghanistan border will swoop in to extricate him," the newspaper says. It claims bin Laden and his men "sleep in caves or out in the open. The area is swept by fierce snow storms howling down from the 10,000ft-high mountain peaks. Donkeys are the only transport."

The special forces are "absolutely confident" there is no escape for bin Laden, and are awaiting the order to go in and get him.

"The timing of that order will ultimately depend on President Bush," the paper says. "Capturing bin Laden will certainly be a huge help for him as he gets ready for the election."

The article says bin Laden's movements are monitored by a National Security Agency satellite.

On Thursday last week, General Richard Myers, chairman of the US joint chiefs of staff, said America had been engaged in "intense" efforts to capture bin Laden, who was believed to be hiding in the border area between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

But he insisted that the focus of the search had not narrowed for months.

NBA Discussion / Spurs gift giving continues?
« on: February 22, 2004, 02:45:41 PM »
Spursfan101....I wanna get your take on this whole Rose/Pop beef.  I seriously CANNOT see how any coach would not love this guy to death.  For the work Malik has done against some of the better players in the league Pop should be paying his car payment.

Just think of the important rest Tim Duncan has got just from Malik being able to guard Shaq well.......and all those saved fouls.  Thats not even including his work on the boards and his defense against other power forwards in the west.

How about the gift the Spurs gave the Lakers by letting them get back into the top 3 spots in the west?

Wow what another bad coaching decision by Pop.  You know us Laker fans love Horry to death but lets be real here.......the guy is up there in age.  With him taking more minutes because of the Rose/Pop beef who knows how much gas he will have come playoff time.  The last 2 years it happend in LA.  He ended up playing more minutes and he wasn't as fresh as he could have been in the playoffs.  Lets not forget he will have to guard players like Chris Webber, Karl Malone, and Dirk.  Throw in the fact that his back isnt in the best shape.  I always thought SA had the crappy mexican dirt weed but I can see now that Pop gets the high grade govt marijuana.  You've got to be very very cheech and chong high to believe this is a good idea.

Wouldnt you want Horry to be as fresh as possible in the playoffs for where he has done plenty of damage previous years with the Lakers and Rockets?

NBA Discussion / Is Peja a top 10 player?
« on: February 19, 2004, 04:03:12 PM »
No he isnt.  He cannot take over games like guys mentioned on your list.  He surely doesn't command a double team night in and night out and his defense is decent but not worth talking about.

JoMaL....Peja is a better jump shooter pct wise but Kobe is much much better at creating his own shot and creating around the rim.  Something that gets overlooked.  I also tottally disagree about him being 100% selfish.  You guys like to paint that picture and will bring up times when he scores alot of points.  Yet you fail to realize he was told to takeover games by the coaching staff on a number of occasions.  You cannot be labeled selfish when you are told by the coaches to do what he is doing.  Lets also not forget his number of assists over the past 3-4 years.
