NBA Discussion / Your choice for R.O.Y?

Your choice for ROY?  We are deep enough into the season to be able to judge Mello and James.  Who gets the nod from you? And why?

NBA Discussion / Does Jerry West deserve his props now?
« on: March 19, 2004, 09:58:02 PM »
Since we all have been posting together for several years now I was wondering if a few of you remember comments made about Jerry West and his true ability as a GM.  Arguments were made, very solid ones I might add, that he had a few things on his side.  The most obvious being that the team is in LA with all the lights and cameras.  I think we all agreed that 'We would see when he gets the grizz' once we all found out the news.  Well....does he deserve some props for turning this team around?

I believe Hubie and West have both done an excellent job together turning this team around.  Hubie is doing everything right on the floor and West made some very solid moves for the team.  Agree disagree?

NBA Discussion / T-mac vs Kobe
« on: March 16, 2004, 11:54:21 PM »
Anyone who caught the LA/Orlando game on Monday night got to see two young stars go at each other......and boy did they go at one another hard.  What a treat.  It was every basketball fan's dream yesterday at Staples center in the 4th when the game was decided by two guys going straight at each other on both ends of the floor.   I couldnt have asked to watch a better game than that.  Kinda reminds you of some elementry school black top battles when the two best players in the school would take over the end of recess and go back and forth while everyone watched :P

If only the rest of the Lakers would play defense like Kobe and Shaq did last night.....::dreams::

NBA Discussion / OT: Bush's negative ads towards Kerry
« on: March 16, 2004, 11:50:18 PM »
Just wanted to get everyones thoughts on the last few ads that the Bush adminstration has run attacking John Kerry.  The latest an ad talking about how John Kerry doesn't support the troops overseas.  My personal opinion about the whole thing is that the Bush administration must be really scared if they are starting off the campaign with negative ads towards Kerry.  Even some democratic supporters had doubts about Kerry's chances against Bush this year......does Bush know something the rest of us dont?

NBA Discussion / jn/laker faithfull...Malone is expected to play
« on: March 12, 2004, 10:59:45 AM »
Morning radio out here said that Malone is expected to suit up with the other 3 members of the fantastic four ;) for tonights big (and gonna be tough) game against the Wolves.

I dont think I can stress how relieved I am. The pain I feel watching Slava/Cook pretend to guard KG is like being stabbed by a bum looking for beer money.  They will be fine when that offensive powerhouse known as Mad Dog comes in for KG.

NBA Discussion / Stubhub.com (Everyone click)
« on: March 04, 2004, 02:21:27 AM »
I heard an ad for this website tonight on AM 570 out here in Southern California after the Laker/Rockets game.  The site has tickets to events that people have but cannot show up to.  Or if you have tickets yourself and cant get rid of them you can post em up to be sold.  Check it out they have links for all the teams so anyone trying to get tickets for a specific game should be able too.

Ignore the same thread below....I thought it was a local thing because it was advertised on local radio.  My bad.

Edit: Wow nevermind......These are like Donald Trump prices for the Lakers tickets.  Hopefully its lower for some of the fans of smaller market teams.  Jesus.

NBA Discussion / Is the NBA the mecca of bad tattoo's?
« on: March 02, 2004, 02:16:29 AM »
A couple of friends and I were talking about how its almost mandatory for you to get a horrible tat on your arm once you signed a contract with a major team.  Then we started to name all the horrible ones we could think of.......starting with

Luke Walton's stick figure re-creation of his brothers
Tracy Mcgrady with a basketball and T-Mac above it
Jason Williams god awfull panther

Feel free to add more you have seen across the league.  Why must guys who make millions each year have to go see some old white hick biker by the name of basher to have him bust out the bic pen and a home made motor to get "inked up" ?

NBA Discussion / Congrads Kings Fans
« on: February 27, 2004, 11:03:57 AM »
As much as I was bitter about the no call when Christie clearly fouled Kobe it was a good game for the Kings.  Much props.  Peja was GREAT.  I do enjoy watching pure shooters like that....even if they are torching my team.  The Lakers were even getting hands in his face in the 2nd half and it made very little difference.  50 feet or 2 inches is the same to Peja.  As long as the ball gets over his head its going in.

You would think that the scouting report is out on Mike Bibby and Peja.  Don't go under screens on them.  Deny them the ball and watch for low bounce passes when they cut.  I know its easier said than done but jesus christ.......they only did it over and over and over and over again last night.

I dont want to talk about calls because I dont think the officials did a bad job last night.  I am just wondering what happend to players who are trying to be aggressive going to the rack having the refs actually watch when they goto the rim.  I still think the NBA should have two stationary refs at each end of the floor and let the other 3 run.

NBA Discussion / Last night showed how painfull obvious it is...
« on: February 27, 2004, 10:57:53 AM »
Edit:  You cant edit your title?  How painfull obvious? LOL!!

Lets play the what if game........What if Rose did get traded?  How screwed would the Spurs be right now?  I thought it was painfully obvious last night how much this Spurs team needs Rose comming off the bench.  If he wasnt there Duncan goes down and Horry has to slide over and play WAY too many minutes until Duncan is able to play.  Then come playoff time you have no Rose and Horry would be too warn down to play at the level everyone is use to seeing him come playoff time.  Maybe I saw a different Spurs game then everyone else.

NBA Discussion / Well it looks like the Lakers got punished for....
« on: February 27, 2004, 01:22:47 AM »
The gimmie call they got against Denver.  CHRISTIE NAILED KOBE!  He hit him right across the face during the shot.  In mid court.  I am seriously stunned.  What more can I say.  Anyone who saw the replay saw him get hit scross the right eye/side of his face.  Reality, go rewind the replay from TNT on your Tivo and tell me he didn't get hit.

What happend to the marketing team for the NBA? I thought it was suppose to only be for the last?

NBA Discussion / OT: Bin Laden surrounded????

Bin Laden 'surrounded'

February 22, 2004

A BRITISH Sunday newspaper is claiming Osama bin Laden has been found and is surrounded by US special forces in an area of land bordering north-west Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The Sunday Express, known for its sometimes colourful scoops, claims the al-Qaeda leader has been "sighted" for the first time since 2001 and is being monitored by satellite.

The paper claims he is in a mountainous area to the north of the Pakistani city of Quetta. The region is said to be peopled with bin Laden supporters and the terrorist leader is estimated to also have 50 of his fanatical bodyguards with him.

The claim is attributed to "a well-placed intelligence source" in Washington, who is quoted as saying: "He (bin Laden) is boxed in."

The paper says the hostile terrain makes an all-out conventional military assault impossible. The plan to capture him would depend on a "grab-him-and-go" style operation.

"US helicopters already sited on the Afghanistan border will swoop in to extricate him," the newspaper says. It claims bin Laden and his men "sleep in caves or out in the open. The area is swept by fierce snow storms howling down from the 10,000ft-high mountain peaks. Donkeys are the only transport."

The special forces are "absolutely confident" there is no escape for bin Laden, and are awaiting the order to go in and get him.

"The timing of that order will ultimately depend on President Bush," the paper says. "Capturing bin Laden will certainly be a huge help for him as he gets ready for the election."

The article says bin Laden's movements are monitored by a National Security Agency satellite.

On Thursday last week, General Richard Myers, chairman of the US joint chiefs of staff, said America had been engaged in "intense" efforts to capture bin Laden, who was believed to be hiding in the border area between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

But he insisted that the focus of the search had not narrowed for months.
