NBA Discussion / Marc Gasol all-star consideration?!
« on: December 02, 2009, 03:00:59 PM »
Should Marc Gasol be a reserve in the NBA All-Star Game this year? John Hollinger was just talking about this in a chat not too long ago.

He is averaging a double double a game (15-10-2) and has some break out games over the last week.  If he continues on this pace, should he be considered for a all-star reserve spot?

NBA Discussion / More betting scandals this time with scout from Sac Kings
« on: November 25, 2009, 05:16:45 PM »
"The NBA has banned former Sacramento Kings assistant director of scouting Jack Mai for betting money on league games, including those involving the Kings, Yahoo! Sports has learned."

What do you guys think? What is the biggest surprise so far in this young season?

The Atlanta Hawks having a better record than Boston, Los Angeles, Orlando, and Cleveland?

The Phoenix Suns going from old dinosaurs not making the playoffs to returning to the Suns we all know (and in my case hate lol)?

The San Antonio Spurs going 4-6 even though many NBA experts (and a few people on this board specifically) picked to be jocking with Los Angeles for the best team in the WC?

NBA Discussion / Kevin Garnett is a really nice guy
« on: November 18, 2009, 04:31:56 PM »
"[Kevin] Garnett wasn?t exactly welcoming to Pacers rookies A.J. Price and Tyler Hansbrough when he visited Indianapolis this summer to film a Wheaties commercial. As Garnett exited Conseco Fieldhouse, Indiana assistant coach Lester Conner asked him to walk over and meet Price and Hansbrough, who were working out. Garnett wasn?t exactly friendly. According to Conner, Garnett continued to walk out and remarked, ?[Expletive] your rookies.?? Said Price, laughing,"

jn, what happened to this guy?  Once he got to Boston he turned into a typical Boston resident or something lol

Question for everyone on the board:

Do you think players should be fined for their criticism of refs?

This question is coming on the heels of Dwight Howard making a comment about a bad call (IMO it was) on his own personal blog.  The league of course got wind of the blog entry and has fined Dwight 15,000 for it.

NBA Discussion / Philly Fans: Is Elton Brand done?
« on: November 09, 2009, 12:07:47 PM »
As someone who is a fan of Elton Brand I had to make this thread......

What is going on with ol boy?!  Brand was one of the players I was going to target in fantasy (and did get him).  I figured he would bounce back from being injured and add 17-9 to the box score on most nights...wrong.

Is this the Elton Brand we should expect to see post-injury?  Is he rusty? Philly fans can you provide some analysis?  I have not caught a Sixers game yet this year so I can only go off the box score at this point but it's been pretty sad to see.

NBA Discussion / Lebron and other Cavs being treated for swine flu?
« on: October 15, 2009, 04:49:54 PM »

INDEPENDENCE, Ohio -- LeBron James and teammates Darnell Jackson and Coby Karl have tested positive for Influenza A, and are being treated as if they have the H1N1 virus.

H1N1, also known as swine flu, is a strain of Influenza A, and though the Cavaliers have not gotten back H1N1 test results on the three, the team said it is being proactive in treating players and the traveling party to Texas. The Cavs play at San Antonio on Friday and in Dallas on Saturday.

James, who will travel with the team, returned to practice on Thursday after spending two days resting at home.

Six Cleveland players have had flu-like symptoms. Guard Andre Barrett and forward J.J. Hickson are not making the Texas trip.

NBA Discussion / OT: Windows 7
« on: October 11, 2009, 12:39:44 PM »
Anyone interested about Windows 7 or maybe have already used the beta?  Microsoft of course has been and is going to continue to make a big push for this operating system.  Also will be the OS that hardware manufactures will be shipping with their desktop and laptops for the Holiday season rush.

Microsoft mailed the discs to the office last week.  I installed Windows 7 Ultimate in a virtual machine to test out some software first.  Since there is no 'upgrade' to Windows 7 from a previous version I could do on a spare laptop nor do I ever install an OS with out formatting that was my only option.   Few of my thoughts quick:

- This is pretty much Vista with better marketing and a sharper graphical interface.  I did not get to fully see all the flashy of the interface since it was in a virtual machine but in what little I got it looked better than Vista.

- The tool bar has changed slightly and it reminds me of what was being done in the xwindows environment for Linux for years.

- DVD burning tool that comes delivered is nice.  I am sure you will be able to download this for Vista if you cannot already.

- The default programs/extension association and protocol settings are very easy to get to.  Pretty easy to configure for people who have an idea why you would want to associate ftp:// with an ftp program, etc.

- It will run nice on newer machines but if you have an older machine still on XP and you want to upgrade to Windows 7, I wouldn't.

As I get to play with it more I'll add more thoughts.  I am going to go to it since I did not make the jump to Vista and will be building a new system soon.

Rumors floating about that the Knicks way to get around the salary cap restriction is for Cablevision (parent company of the Knicks) to offer Lebron a deal to give him his own cable tv channel in the region.

What do you guys think?  Slimey move or creative negiotating ?  Do you think the league would even allow this?

NBA Discussion / Confession of an NBA score keeper
« on: August 28, 2009, 01:23:05 PM »
http://deadspin.com/5345287/the-confessions-of-an-nba-scorekeeper

Very interesting read.  Not that most of us have not picked up on what goes on in this regard.  Though the numbers and a specific story from an ex-Grizz score keeper makes it a quality article.

How much do you think this has an affect on the numbers that fans use when debating?

NBA Discussion / So 'Shaq Vs' was stolen from Steve Nash, WOW
« on: August 21, 2009, 12:29:23 AM »
"The most entertaining part of the new reality show, "Shaq Vs."? The credits. Executive producer: Steve Nash. Shaquille O'Neal stole Nash's idea. Shortly after O'Neal was traded to the Suns in February 2008, Nash mentioned to his new teammate a reality show he was pursuing. It would feature the Suns point guard taking on professional athletes in their own sport. The topic didn't come up again until early in the 2008-09 season, when O'Neal boarded the Suns bus and told the team he would be starring in a new reality show in which he would be taking on, you got it, professional athletes in their own sport. "You mean the idea you stole from me?" one Suns representative said he heard Nash say. Nash eventually sought out an entertainment lawyer, according to sources, which is why he now has an executive-producer credit and the compensation that comes with it. When reached Wednesday, Nash would not confirm the story."

Now that I got your attention take a look at the break down of back to back games and how they really could factor in at different points in the season.  I find it interesting that all of the contenders are in the bottom half of the cut for most back to backs.  Also, it looks like Darth Stern is Lurker'ing in the background to manipulate events for a certain ancient team that I will not name at this time.

Are you guys sick of seeing the Lakers on Christmas yet?  If you are not then you can watch the Lakers/Cavs match up (which I never thought was all that exciting) this year!

Opening day:  Cavs - Celtics and the WTF scheduling of 'Lakers/Clippers' so the league can do the ring ceremony at Staples.  What better way to make the Clippers feel like the bastard child of LA by having them play the Lakers after they get their championship rings.

"The Spurs' star hurt his right thigh and ankle in a collision with Stjepan Stazic in a game Friday. Parker issued a statement saying he was hit in his thigh and turned his ankle."

Parker tweaking his ankle isn't really thread worthy by itself this early in the summer.  Though it does bring up the issue that the Rockets have had with Yao Ming and I am sure others have had with foreign players.  How do you stop them from playing?  Can you really stop them without specifically writing it into their contract?  Do you WANT to do that?  Seems like guys like Manu and Ming have really hurt their own squads playing in the off-season.  Seeing as the NBA career pays the bills do you think there will be a shift in how this is handled?
